Gritty, violent, and bad-ass! These guys are definitely one of the heaviest bands of the time and they take zero prisoners on this one. The opening track unleashes the fury, and every tune that follows is absolutely solid. Even during the less heavy moments, the album kills and hypnotizes the mind. All in all, it's fantastic from start to finish and is definite must-check out if you haven't done so already.

The mighty BUFFALO opened up for Black Sabbath in Australia during Sabbath's early 70's tour there; Ozzy didn't want them as the their opening band because he said that "they (BUFFALO) are too-bloody-good"! .... we can believe it!
This is a great first BUFFALO. Definitely heavy with some psychedelic mix to it ---> crank up !!!

A premier, fairly unknown Australian '70 rock band who were actually more popular in Europe than in their homeland,
Buffalo had a huge reputation for partying, each concert an affair in what rock is known best for: sex, drugs, and stylish heavy-rock . Not as cliché was their enthusiasm for morbid, occult themes and images ala Sabbath and Zeppelin (the gatefold cover of this lp depicts the bloody face of a man gazing out from the eye socket of a huge yellow skull). Fortunately, they had a sound to match. Put all that together and you have a creature that could be the ultimate heavy rock group.... though due to their location, many would-be fans totally went unaware!

While dingy, heavy tones is the grit of these eight tracks, easily heard in “Leader” (right after the rather mellow, harmonized acoustic intro) to kick off the LP. Then the heavier covers of Blues Image’s “Pay My Dues” and Free’s “I’m a Mover”, the five-piece’s debut isn’t a stranger to melody. In fact, it's a pretty rational amalgam. With more of a rockin’ gait is probably their best-known tune, “Suzie Sunshine”, followed by “Balled of Irving Fink” and its blue-collar lyrics. “Bean Stew” is a sound conveyor of both moods, driving and strong. “Forest Rain” and “Dead Forever” almost hinge on the far ends of the Sabbath "Volume 4 LP" spectrum. The former is a rainfall-backed, dishearteningly number with a softly epic chorus and melancholic gait, while the latter is a hard-nosed sprinter with a scorching guitar solo and a main riff that simply captures attention.

The vocals of Alan Milano and Davate “Dave” Tice (the two share the duty, both refreshingly harmonize together as heard in “Leader”, “Suzie Sunshine” and others.) The vocalists are masculine in a great mid-range that has no problem accentuating the forceful riffs of Paul Balbi on drums, John Baxter on guitar, and Peter Wells on bass.

The back cover of this LP says to ‘play this album LOUD!’ – really, if heavy, driving rock is your forte, it’s difficult not to. It just has that feel to it, as if you’re missing something if it’s not cranked up. Their second lp, _Volcanic Rock_, is said to be even heavier.

The cover: rated: VG++ Light wear starting & contained on the HIGHLY wear-prone gatefold cover, back gatefold is the same, just light wear started/contained, while the great image of BUFFALO on inside of gatefold is CLEAN w/ only slight rub wear. There are no delete marks, no split seams, no bends, and no writing ...
