Description
Best I can tell is that this is a Privately Produced record of an amateur jazz band in the 1940s/50s in the Washington DC Area. One side is titled, "I Got The Blues" and is by Dandy Linthicum and the Rebels. The flip side is titled, "The Rebel Boogie" by the Rebels. It was recorded by, Circle Recording Studio in Washington DC. When researching this company, all I could come up with is an advertisement for this recording studio, and a few Google Books citations for an R&B recording studio of this name located in Washington DC on "Pennsylvania Ave, NW" (one citation) and "2138 Pennsylvania Ave Northwest" (the second citation). I presume this is a 33 RPM - it could be a 78 RPM - there is no identification of the RPM on the label but the grooves appear to be more like those of a 33 RPM than a 78 RPM, and it is not thick shellac. It does look like it could be played - I am unable to play test it. There is a small chip on the lead-in on one side, and there are a good number of light scratches, but the grooves are clean under the scratches. I would grade it G.
A last clue regarding this is that it was purchased from the estate of a William A. Linthicum of Rockville, MD. An online obituary indicates such an individual passed in 1991. He was a physician. He had a son with the same name, who was a lawyer in the region, who passed in 1989.
