Description
ULTRA RARE LABEL that, as best I can tell from my research, was a Russia-based label in the early 1900s, around 1910-1920. One site provides this thought, "«Stella Record» label was used by German company «Schallplatten-Vertrieb GmbH». The headquarters and the plant located in Berlin. It had one more factory in Warsaw that was dedicated for pressing phonograph records solely with Russian repertoire. The company began Russian recordings only in 1913, but earlier it pressed Russian records from «Homokord» and «Anker-Record» matrices. After the outbreak of WWI the company halted all its operations in Russia." This same site provides a photo and some information on a record that had essentially the same label as the one listed here - pink with the same "Stella-Concert-Record" heading. Their record had the title below the label, "Repertuar Polski", while the one here has the title, "Jüdisches Repertoir". Their record was in Polish while the one here is in German. The number of the two sides in this Polish record was, 101301 and 101302, while the numbers on this record was, 101831 and 101833.
Needless to say, I could not find any site identified the record listed here. The four songs here appear to have been performed by, "Orchester des jüdisches theaters warschau", which translates to, "Warsaw Jewish Theater Orchestra". Please see listing photos for further information on this interesting 78 RPM.
Like most 78 RPMs this old, there are quality issues. There are light scratches overall, but clear shellac grooves do show through. There is a non-trivial scuff mark on the side 101833 shown in the last listing photo. I would have graded the record VG (maybe better) without this scuff, but with it I will grade the 78 overall as G.
