Here is an unusual record. Phil Collins' early band, later of Genesis & solo fame. Not only does he have lots of hair, it is signed by him to me.

Inscribed

" To (My personal name) From The Archives. Well done. " Signed: "Phil Collins" He also drew a Drum Kit with his smiley face behind it & initialed 'PC' on the bass drum.

This is a very, very one of a kind record.

How could such a rare record be so carefully attended to by Phil to little old me? A series of rabbit hole events certainly. When I was in 70's High School my classmates often poked fun at me for liking Progressive Rock & not wearing the approved shoes. I was shunned for not listening to Disco. Later whilst working in a Hollywood bookshop in the 80's I suddenly recognized a former classmate, the then & still famous LA radio personality CYNTHIA FOX (KMET, KLOS, KCET.)

I said "Hi Cynthia, do you remember me?" She said,

"Oh my God it's you! You are just the person I need. I have to do the 1st ever USA radio interview tomorrow with Phil Collins & I know absolutely nothing about him or Genesis, or anything. Can you please help me!!?

"Hmmm. Fear not fair damsel, I will teach you all the things a school full of ignorant bullies missed out on..... But I shall require a special favor....."

Anyway, Miss Cynthia pulled off the interview quite well. Sounding quite knowledgeable about Phil & all the Prog lads & personally thanked me, on air, at the end interview for providing much needed research.

Although I did not get to meet Phil personally, as I was slaving away at the bookshop getting things signed by Andy Warhol & others.... Cynthia made sure I got my copy of "Flaming Youth" signed as a special prize for helping her. I screamed in delight when I saw the little illustrated drum kit! Such a unique item for a devoted fan, don't you think?

Sadly, I must sell it now.

WHAT THIS IS: This is a USED record. It is NOT perfect. Maybe Acceptable or Great to you.

I DO NOT WANT TO SELL YOU A BAD RECORD! Yet it could happen. All records crackle & pop. Some less or more than others... I have seen records with surfaces that look ugly & sound flawless. I have seen/heard record surfaces that look NEW & they sound AWFUL & even SKIP. Covers might be worn in a way I missed in the description.

ANSWER: Yes. Briefly. The 1st track on each side for about 5 minutes. It sounded very clean on these two quick portions. I heard some crackles between tracks.

FACT: The ONLY way to know if a record sounds good (or not) is sitting there, watching it, the needle, looking at meters & fiddling with knobs & listening carefully to the entire vinyl in Real Time. Completely undistracted. I did not have that time. Please ask me if you want me to go listen this to this one, before you bid or buy. NOTES: Collins's first record deal came as drummer for Flaming Youth who released a single album, Ark 2 (1969). A concept album inspired by the recent media attention surrounding the moon landing, Ark 2 (with Ronnie Caryl, Brian Chatton and Gordon (Flash) Smith), failed to make much commercial success despite positive critical reviews.

Although the album today remains difficult to obtain, it has been reprinted in various markets mainly for the novelty of Phil Collins' first major label recording. Collins was the group's drummer, and Ark 2 was Collins' last recording before auditioning for Genesis the following year.

Ark 2 is a 1969 concept album released by obscure British rock group Flaming Youth. Released in October, the album featured the theme of an evacution from a dying Earth. The main single from the album was "From Now On". The album and its space theme were influenced by the media's attention to the moon landing. The songs were composed by Ken Howard and Alan Blaikley who were not credited on the original record as they did not want their reputation as writers of commercial hits to jeopardise its chances.

SURFACE CONDITION: Looks clean. I listened to the 1st track on each side for about 5 minutes. It sounded very clean on these two quick portions. I heard some crackles between tracks.
