We are pleased to present the rarest and hardest-to-find Thirteenth Floor Elevators album in existence: the monstrously rare STOCK – NOT WHITE LABEL PROMO -- MONO pressing of the Thirteenth Floor Elevators legendary, second album. This album is a proverbial Loch Ness monster of record collecting: everybody knows that it exists – or has heard that it exist, or knows someone who has one, or has heard of someone who found one, but no one has ever seen, let alone snapped a photo of it. We have a distinct privilege of presenting a GORGEOUS specimen of one such rare species here. We estimate that these STOCK MONO pressings are outnumbered by their more common STEREO cousins by a ratio of close to 1000:1. And, no, we are NOT exaggerating.

***

This was the second of the four great, classic psychedelic albums by Rocky Erickson & his Thirteenth Floor Elevators before Erickson was declared criminally insane and hauled off into the psychiatric asylum for a protracted and bizarre "treatment". Frankly, we don't know why - this album still sounds more SANE to us than most of the music of the period. Indeed, it sounds much better than most of the music created since!!! Don't miss this great psych relic, which almost never shows up for sale in ANY condition.

·                               `CONDITION:

·                               RECORD

(IMPORTANT NOTE: unless otherwise noted, ALL records are graded visually, and NOT play-graded!; we grade records under the strong, diffuse room light or discrete sunlight)

(a)          VISUAL GRADE: WE GRADE THE VINYL AS NEAR MINT. Some VERY LIGHT AND SUPERFICIAL abrasions – mostly sleeve scuffs - are (barely) visible, but are probably inaudible, and do not affect visual integrity or beauty of the vinyl. The original luster is very much intact, and the vinyl shines and sparkles almost like new.

(b)          PLAY GRADE: The surface of the record is probably 99.99% NEAR MINT, and only 0.01% or so VERY GOOD+ or so. Beautiful shiny disc has only one slight blemish and, fortunately, it is placed squarely in between tracks 4 and 5 on side 1, in the track break (the blank space) between the tracks; As the music from track 4 fades, light clicks begin, and as the track 5 begins the clicks gradually fade out, so only a couple of seconds of music is affected. We assure you that this is not much of a problem. You might not even notice a few seconds of pops and clicks.

(c)             Mono pressing of this title is much rarer, and by far more preferable to its stereo counterpart. We think that the mix is more natural, humane, "organic" and that the mixes are somewhat different than on the stereo version. We estimate that stock stereo copies of this album outnumber stock mono pressings by a ratio of at least 1,000:1 and possibly even more!

(d)            The record is pressed on a beautiful, thick, inflexible vinyl, which was usually used for the first or very early pressings. Usually, the sound on such thick vinyl pressings is full-bodied, vivid, and even dramatic. Do not expect to obtain such a majestic analog sound from a digital recording!

(e)             Of course, this is a full-bodied ANALOG recording, and not an inferior, digital recording!!!

·       COVER (this is the original, “gold leaf” finish cover)

THE COVER IS NICE --- ABOUT EXCELLENT OR VERY GOOD+++.

The following flaws or imperfections are noted on the cover:

-         Cover has JUST A HINT of ring wear (nothing significant); On the scale from 1 to 10 (1 being the least, and 10 being the most severe), we assess the severity of ring wear as 2 (front side) and 1 (back side)

-        Cover has a few wrinkles along the spine

-        Cover has a visible "wrinkle"(crease) in one of the corners.

-         Cover has one corner slightly worn / frayed / bent.

-         Minor shelf wear noted on the bottom seam (nothing significant)

-         A few minor fingerprints noted on the front (gold leaf) panel (nothing significant); this is a common problem with ALL copies of this delicate cover

NO OTHER IMPERFECTIONS ON THE COVER:

-        No split seams

-        No cut-out (drill) holes.

-        No cut-out corners
