Item:  Vintage Grateful Dead Collection 

I prefer not to sell to Vintage Record Stores for Re-Sale.  I want these albums going to collectors who appreciate good vinyl and not for someone else to make $$ by jacking up the price.  Thanks.

Please understand that photos of Vinyl Records do not show very accurately because of glares and reflections.  So, please take that into consideration when looking at my photos.  I use the "Industry Standard Record Grading Chart" (down below) to grade each Vinyl Records condition and the Condition of the Album Cover.   When in doubt, I will always go "down" in my grading (to play it safe).  Sometimes I will add an extra +/- just to make the grading more accurate.   All Albums I sell are cleaned with a Top of the Line Vinyl Record Cleaner.  So, regardless of an albums condition, it is always immaculate and plays to the best of its potential.  I take Grading/Cleaning Records very seriously and personally listen to every single album.  

Every single one of these came from the Original Owner whose name is handwritten on every cover/record (Photo#7).  They went directly from her to me as a temporary owner selling them here in my EBAY store for her.  I personally listened to EVERY one completely and did not hear one skip!  I basically lived on the road from 1985-87 following the Grateful Dead on the East Coast so this was quite a pleasure to do.  I gotta point out that as a "picker" I stumble upon some Dead Albums every once in awhile but in the years I've been doing this I've NEVER found so many in such EXCELLENT overall condition.  Because this is an expensive listing, I graded these very conservatively and spent 3 hours doing so from cleaning/testing/grading/taking photos & finally listing.  

Please take note how many of these are Double and Even a Triple LP Album!  

Please Understand What Each Grading Means.  Please understand that each Record Player performs differently as well.  I can't stress enough the difference between a $99 Turntable and a $300 Turntable.  

Note:  I only grade albums "MINT" if they are still sealed. 

1): "Live Dead". Double Gatefold Album from 1969 by Warner Bros. Recs. #1830.  Vinyl Records Graded: Very Good++ - Excellent.  Album Cover Graded:  Very Good +.  Album has couple taped seam splits.

2): "Workingman's Dead".  Single Album from 1970 by Warner Bros. Recs. #1869.  Vinyl Record Graded: Excellent  Album Cover Graded: Very Good +. 

3): "American Beauty".  Single Album from 1970 by Warner Bros. Recs. WS1893.  Vinyl Record Graded: Excellent +.  Album Cover Graded: Very Good +. 

4): "Europe '72".  TRIPLE Gatefold Album from 1972 by Warner Bros. Recs. 3WX 2668.  Vinyl Records Graded: Very Good - To Very Good +.  Album Cover Graded: Good.  Out of all the 14 albums only this one had any significant condition issues and most of it just with the cover with many tape repairs.  All Three Records played with no skips and sounded darn good, but just didn't look as good as the others visually.  All Three Paper Sleeves have been replaced with new ones. 

5): "From The Mars Hotel".  Single Album from 1974 by Grateful Dead Recs. GD-102.  Vinyl Record Graded: Excellent.   Album Cover Graded:  Very Good +.  

6): "Blues For Allah".  Single Album from 1975 by Grateful Dead Recs. GD-LA-494-G.  Vinyl Record Graded: Very Good +.  Album Cover Graded: Very Good +.  Includes Original Lyric Sheet Insert w/Arabic Translation. 

7): "Steal Your Face".  DOUBLE Gatefold Album from 1976 by Grateful Dead Recs GD-LA620-JZGD104.  Vinyl Record Graded:  Very Good ++.  Album Cover Graded:  Excellent -. 

8): "Shakedown Street".  Single Album from 1978 by Arista Recs. AB4198.  Vinyl Record Graded: Very Good ++.  Album Cover Graded: Very Good +++. 

9): "What A Long Strange Trip Its Been - Best Of The Grateful Dead". DOUBLE Gatefold Album from 1977 by Warner Bros. Recs. 2W3091.  Vinyl Records Graded: Very Good & Excellent.  Album Cover Graded: Very Good +.  On Record w/Sides 1 & 4 there is a "odd" warped section that covers 3 tracks. It can be felt, seen but NOT heard at all as if its not there.  I have no idea what caused it.  But it is irrelevant audio wise but did force me to take it into account when grading. 

10): "Go To Heaven".  Single Album from 1980 by Arista Recs. AL9508.  Vinyl Record Graded: Excellent +.  Album Cover Graded: Excellent.

11): "Dead Set".  DOUBLE Gatefold Album from 1981 by Arista Recs. A2L8606.  Vinyl Record Graded: Excellent +. Album Cover Graded: Excellent +.

12): "Reckoning".  DOUBLE Album from 1981 by Arista Recs. A2L8604.  Vinyl Records Graded: NEAR MINT.  Album Cover Graded: NEAR MINT.

13): "In The Dark".  Single Album from 1987 by Arista Recs. AL-8452.  Vinyl Record Graded: Excellent ++.  Album Cover Graded: Very Good +.

14): "Built To Last".  Single Album from 1989 by Arista Recs. AL-8575.  Vinyl Record Graded: Excellent ++.  Album Cover Graded: Excellent +.

Industry Standard Record Grading Chart

MINT - SEALED (MS): Perfect! This record looks like it has just left the manufacturer, with NO flaws what so ever. It looks as though it had never been handled. No scuffs or scratches, blotches or stains. No stickers address labels, writing on the covers or labels. No tears or seam splits. No wear to the cover or record period! Age of the record has nothing to do with it.

NEAR MINT or NM, M- : this record appears virtually flawless A very minor scuff and very little else can appear on the vinyl. It should play without any noise over the flaw. The flaw is very hard to see. The cover looks as close to perfect with only minor signs of wear and or age. Minor impressions to the cover (due to the outer edge of the vinyl resting inside) may be acceptable, however the artwork is be as close to perfect as can be.

EXCELLENT or EX or VG++ : minor scuffs which are only slightly visible. There may be more than a few scuffs and NO Scratches COVER: Artwork is still as close to perfect as can be. Some impression to the cover (minor outer ring wear) but no ink wear! Some slight creases to the corners, but not wrinkled and obtrusive to the eye. The corners can show white (where the artwork pasted slick was) meaning, slight wear. No seam splits or writing on the cover or taped repairs can make this grade.

VERY GOOD PLUS or VG+ record shows wear, surface scuffs. The vinyl still has a great luster, but the flaws will be noticeable to the naked eye. If the flaws don't cause any surface noise, the vinyl can still make the VG+ grade. COVERS: A virtually clean cover, but may have small writing on it. The artwork looks clean with slightly more aging. The back of the cover usually gives away the age of the cover. Flat white paper will be somewhat yellow yet no stains or mildew from water damage. Some minor wear to the seams or spine, but no tears or holes popping through. The corners will be slightly dog eared yet no crackly bends, defacing the artwork. In essence, a VG+ cover should have no more than 3 flaws mentioned.

VERY GOOD or VG: this record is a record that is good enough. They are not really going to look very good, but it will STILL play very good. There will almost always be some surface noise when they are played. The Dynamics should still be excellent, overpowering the surface noise. A VG record will appear well have been played but still have some luster. VG covers will look worn, used. There may be some seam splitting . There will be some ring wear, where the ink has begun to wear off. Giving the cover a look of snow falling. If the artwork looks snowy all over, it is less than VG condition. There may be some writing on the cover (still, no Large letters in magic marker). It will look aged and more yellowish due to contamination's in the air (sometimes looking like cigarette smoke). Still it should be decent.

GOOD or G A good record will look very well played and dull. However a Good record should still play. It could have distracting surface noise. Such as crackle that is continuous or some hiss. Will also have some loss of dynamics caused from grooves being worn. It should play without any skips or any obtrusively loud pops or repeated clicks, caused by deep scratches. Good means that it will play with some form of decency, so one can still enjoy the music even though you can still hear noise caused from the wear. A Good cover will have just about everything wrong with it. It will have seam splits (possibly taped repaired, but only with scotch tape. No duct tape or masking tape repairs
