Alessandro Bonci, one of the great belcanto tenors in the vein of De Lucia, was in contempory reviews called the rival of Caruso.

However, their singing is different: Caruso is verismo singer, whereas Bonci still harks back to the belcanto tradition of the 19th century

VERY GOOD Minus , basically unworn but very rubbed, Aida has a patch of fine scratching plays quiet but clicks and with a harsh swish

Alessandro Bonci (February 10, 1870-August 8, 1940) was an Italian tenor known for his association with the bel canto repertoire.

A native of Cesena, Bonci studied for five years at the Rossini Conservatory in Pesaro, working with Carlo Pedrotti and Felice Coen; he made his debut in Parma in 1896, singing in Giuseppe Verdi's Falstaff at the Teatro Regio. Such was his success that before the end of his first season he was engaged to sing at La Scala, where he made his debut in I Puritani. Appearances throughout Europe followed, and on December 3, 1906, Bonci made his American debut with the Manhattan Opera Company; again the opera was I Puritani. He stayed two seasons with the company, serving as a popular competitor to Enrico Caruso, then headlining the Metropolitan Opera. Bonci himself joined the Metropolitan in 1908, and joined the Chicago Opera in 1914. He also made a transcontinental tour singing song recitals between 1910 and 1911.

Bonci served in the Italian army during World War I, returing to America to tour for three seasons after the war; he again appeared at the Metropolitan, and sang in Chicago during the 1920-21 season. In 1922 and 1923 he served as the principal tenor of the Teatro Costanzi in Rome, teaching master classes across the United States in the following year. After 1925 Bonci entered partial retirement, devoting himself primarily to teaching in Milan; he died in Viterbo in 1940.

Quick note on grading:

The Grade (Excellent to Fair, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately

When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to F), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"SUPERQUIET" is basically noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an exceptionally quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example without undue noise for a give pressing.

These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.

Multiple item shipping: I am happy to combine items for shipment in one parcel.

Records will be packed safely between corrugated cardboard in a sturdy box with plenty of padding for safe shipment.

Shipment is usually Media Mail, unless another service is requested. Shipping is at your risk, I will be happy to insure items at your cost.

I charge actual postage plus a small fee for packing materials

As always, I guarantee your satisfaction. If you don't like the item, just return it, and I will refund the full purchase price.

Prices below are for regular 78 rpm records. Up to about 5 records, I will ship Edison Discs for the same rates. Albums from Album Sets count as 1 record. Above that and for international shipments, it will be actual weight plus a small packing charge (1-3$ depending on size of shipment)

1 record: 4.50 – 5.00$

2 records: 5.75$

5 records: 7.50$

10 records: 9.50$

MANY MORE RECORDS: Don't worry. I safely ship 40 - 50 pounds of records double boxed in moving boxes, and even then Media Mail will probably not exceed 30$.
