I am currently selling a series of great Richard Wagner and classic European 78 rpm orchestral recordings on all the great European labels:
A FESTIVAL OF GERMAN SINGERS
SIGNED BY RICHARD TAUBER IN DEAD WAX !!! Also check my other auctions for MITZI Maria Jeritza doing a subset of this record: Die Tote Stadt, Lautenlied der Marietta. Mitzi got Lottchen her first major role at the PREMIERE of Ariadne auf Naxos (the Vienna premiere, not the Stuttgart Bourgeois Gentilhomme) as the COMPOSER. Mitzi was of course the Ariadne.
Up there with John McCormack and Tito Schipa, Richard Tauber was probably the greatest lyrical tenor of the 20th century.
Lotte Lehmann does not need any prize.
Now this is one of the recordings of the Century:
1924 12" acoustic Odeon 78 rpm with original acoustic label (note: the US Decca release of this record is a dub)
Richard Tauber, Lotte Lehmann
Dr. Georg Szell (note no "e" in George) first Kapellmeister of the Berlin State Opera:
Erich Korngold: Die Tote Stadt
12" German ODEON special GOLD LABEL pressing with Tauber Signature under the label
Duett Marietta and Paul: Glueck das mir verblieb (Happiness, that I retained)
Aria of Paul: Ich werde sie nicht wiedersehen (I will never see har again.)
Condition: Very Good PLUS PLUS, a very clean and undamaged record, with only some spots of light greying.
This recording is one of the greatest renderings of a scene of love, letting the beloved go, and resignation to the loss.
Incomparably sung by Tauber and Lehmann.
Korngold's Modern Opera, Die Tote Stadt (the dead Town), is basically the same story as Hitchcocks "Vertigo" (minus the Mission Bell Tower)
In effect, both works are based on the Belgian romanciers Georges Rodenbach novel Bruges la Morte, a delicate tale of love beyond death and a shade of necrophilia:
Paul has lost his wife, and is finding her likeness in Marietta, a member of a circus troupe. He tries to make-over Marietta in the image of his dead wife.
This fails, and the record starts here, where Paul and Marietta have their last duet before parting, and Paul resigns himself to the fact, that he lost his wife for a second time, and he will not have a second chance of happiness with Marietta.

US Domestic Shipping:
Here is a rough guideline for US Media Mail Shipping:
Prices below are for regular 78 rpm records. Up to about 5 records, I will ship Edison Discs for the same rates. Above that and for international shipments, it will be actual weight plus a small packing charge (1-2$)
1 record: 4$
2 records: 5$
5 records: 6$
10 records: 8$
International Buyers:
I am very happy to ship records worldwide.
Prices below are for regular 78 rpm records. For Edison Discs in international shipments, it will charge for the actual weight plus a small packing charge (1-2$) - for small quantities, it will not be much different from the charge for regular 78s.
Pls contact me for a shipping estimate, or send me an invoice request after close of auction.
Be aware that US Postal Rates can be high. Here are some examples.
Your best bet is the Large Priority box, everything that fits into a 12"x12"x5 1/2" box up to 20 pounds ships for 60$ (35$ Canada) worldwide.
However, I can get competitive rates from FedEx and the US Postal service for any kind of parcel weight
Germany (is pretty much the same for most countries, incl Japan and Western Europe)
1 record = 2 lbs 20$
4 lbs = 35$
20 lbs in 12x12" box 60$
Canada
1 record = 2 lbs 10$
4 lbs = 18$
20 lbs in 12x12" box ((12" albums won't fit)= 35$
I may be able to get some slightly better FedEx rates.
Pls email with your address for an estimate.
