1932 Prohibition Repeal Song

NEW YORK, May 9 Reinald Werrenrath, famous baritone, last night stood as godfather for a new song called "Wake Up, America ! " which is aimed at the prohibition amendment. At the Actors Dinner Club benefit, in the Lyceum Theater, Werrenrath sang the song and led the Alumni Glee Club in singing it. The music was written by Fred G. Clarke, of Cleveland, national commander of the Crusaders, anti-prohibition organization. The lyrics are by John T. Blossom, commander of the Crusaders in Cleveland. The chorus follows: "Wake up, America! ' Let sunshine reappear; Wake up, America! Banish thought of doubt or fear. Kill this law of thy mistaken men; Raise on high your glass and drink to when Well live as God's free men again. Wake up, America!"

EXCELLENT MINUS, scuffs, one faint scratch on WAKE, plays E very quiet lightest crackle

The Crusaders was an organization founded to promote the repeal of prohibition in the United States. Prominent Crusaders included Alfred Sloan, Jr., Sewell Avery, Cleveland Dodge, and Wallage Alexander.

The organization was founded in May 1929 as a local Cleveland group under the leadership of Fred G. Clark, who later said they were motivated by the St. Valentine's Day Massacre in Chicago, an outbreak of violence between rival bootleggers. At the start of 1930, the organization decided to organize young men nationwide. They eventually claimed membership of one million, though the claim is dubious. The organization had serious financial problems by the fall of 1931 and was never significant nationally.[1] In Michigan, it drew its membership largely from the ranks of young, male Republicans and worked to elect "wet" Republicans to offices at all levels of government.[2] One account of the organization by a proponent of prohibition said its membership was made up of the sons of members of the Association Against the Prohibition Amendment.[3]

The Crusaders published a magazine called The Hot Potato, the name of which was meant to describe how prohibition was a political issue that politicians could not handle.[4] The organization endorsed no candidate in the presidential election of 1932.[5]

Quick note on grading:

The Grade (Excellent to Fair, I don't give Mint) refers to the WEAR of the record. Any other defects are stated separately

When I listen to a record, I may also give it an aural grade (again E to F), and make a SUBJECTIVE judgment of the pressing quality for hiss and surface noise.
"SUPERQUIET" is basically noiseless, like a vinyl pressing.
"VERY QUIET" is an quiet record for a given pressing.
"Quiet" is a record that is a great example without undue noise for a give pressing.

These judgments are SUBJECTIVE and will depend one the styli, phonograph etc. you use on your own equipment.

Records will be packed safely between corrugated cardboard in a sturdy box with plenty of padding for safe shipment.

Shipment is usually Media Mail, unless another service is requested. Shipping is at your risk, I will be happy to insure items at your cost.

I charge actual postage plus a small fee for packing materials

Prices below are for regular 78 rpm records. Up to about 5 records, I will ship Edison Discs for the same rates. Albums from Album Sets count as 1 record. Above that and for international shipments, it will be actual weight plus a small packing charge (1-3$ depending on size of shipment)

MANY MORE RECORDS: Don't worry. I safely ship 40 - 50 pounds of records double boxed in moving boxes, and even then Media Mail will probably not exceed 30$.
