Description

Here's an original 1934 "HOLLYWOOD IMPRESSIONS" 16" TRANSCRIPTION DISC.  This MacGregor & Sollie recording contains two complete syndicated quarter-hour programs (13 minutes) hosted by voice impressionist LEW TOBIN.  It's a fun format, combining popular music with the latest scoop on Hollywood celebrities.  Tobin isn't particularly talented as a mimic, but the show has great energy.  Each show has a humorous monologue jabbing at celebrities such as Lupe Velez, Johnny Weissmuller, Carole Lombard, Marlene Dietrich, Mae West, William Powell and many more.  There are three complete songs performed by the unnamed (but excellent) orchestra with unnamed vocalists on each program.   I don't believe this program is in circulation.

Program #3 has an in-person appearance by actress Edna O'Keefe.  Program 3 opens with "JUST WHISTLE AND BLOW YOUR BLUES AWAY" (male singer).   Around the mid-point of the program, "THANK YOUR FATHER" (male singer) is performed, and the program closes with "I DON'T KNOW WHY" (male & female).

Program #4 includes a review of Katharine Hepburn's career to date.  Program 4 opens with "YOU'RE TELLING ME" (male singer).  "NEVER BE THE SAME" (male singer) is mid-show, and the program closes with "JERICHO" (male group - a trio, I think).  There are a few skip-backs in the last song but no content is missed.

See photos for a closer look at the disc.  It is in very good condition with ordinary wear (meaning some light surface noise, etc ~ all to be expected from an 85-year old record).  There is damage to the edge of the disc on one side, but this doesn't affect the recording.  There is a scratch on Program 4 which causes a few skip-backs in the last song as noted; no content is missed.

Will ship in a sturdy box for safe transit.
