Hard to find label! TIMELY RECORDS, 1938. First American Left- wing/protest/folk music label, TIMELY, like Keynote was founded to promote progressive political music, as opposed to the popular music of the time, which was Boogie Woogie and Big Band. Earl Hawley Robinson (July 2, 1910 – July 20, 1991) was a songwriter and composer from Seattle, Washington. He had leftist-leaning political views, was actively involved in the anti-fascist movement, and was the musical director at the Communist-run Camp Unity in upstate New York. There he wrote the music to the song Joe Hill. Robinson's musical influences included Paul Robeson, Leadbelly, and American folk music. He composed "Ballad for Americans" (lyrics by John La Touche ) which became a signature song for Robeson.
This is his Abe Lincoln record produced on a Timely label number 500. It is in excellent condition with some minor scratches and scuffing. Buyer will include $7 for shipping. Thanks.
