1955 RED AND BLACK 6-EYE CLASSIC HOLIDAY RECORDING
JO STAFFORD
HAPPY HOLIDAY
1955 COLUMBIA CL691 MONO
VG+/VG
Has some bits of clear tape repair on seams, spine is readable and strong; small light round stain on bottom of bc; fc is great -- shiny, vivid, super clean, beautiful (can't beat that 50s kodachrome color) - not to mention one of the all-time great 'fake' holiday settings ever used on a Christmas album; with a ton of "movie" snow and a styrene snowman. LP has been played and has surface markings and low level surface noise and an occasional tick and pop - but Jo sounds fine throughout. If you've grown up only listening to CDs, you may wanna pass on this, but if you're an old LP listener you'll realize this great classic LP by a great great singer has a lot of holidays left in it, and offers versions of classic and not-so-classic tunes in a style and voice you aren't going to find anywhere else. Backed by her husband, Paul Weston and his Orchestra and the Starlighters. The LP follows the Weston family --that's son Timmy on the fc -- as it gets ready for Christmas on Christmas Eve. Anybody who grew up in the 50s -- or grew up period -- is going to love this LP. And if you're a Jo Stafford fan -and if you aren't, you will be as soon as you hear her sing here - this is a must-have.
