Description
This is our first sale from a top of the market collection, comprising of just early stereo rarities on Decca HMV, UK Columbia & RCA. First labels issues in Near Mint condition to 99% of them, all described in detail with plenty of pictures. Includes many items rarely seen on ebay.
Lovely condition 1957 1st Uk press Nixa WLP 20025 Rodzinski & the PSO of London in Wagner Overtures & Preludes (Tannhauser, Tristan, Lohengrin & Die Walkure). International classical record collectors 1st 1995 issue raved about the transfers of these earliest Nixas. This actual performance was very highly regarded when reviewed that year by gramophone:
"This is in two ways a far more enjoyable Wagner disc than that reviewed on p. 341: it is a much better sound and it is a good deal better conducted. The warm sound makes the Lohengrin Prelude and the Tristan 'Siamese twins' sound most beautiful, with especially very good orchestral playing."
So overall a very desirable pre stereo Wagner orchestral recital.
The pristine original sleeve is near mint. The record is near mint with no marks to the playing surfaces with just a few spindles to the labels, which are the red & silver earliest type.
This record is not warped, labels are clean.Good selection of rarities in my list this week..
