Description
This 12” diameter, 33 1/3 rpm vinyl LP is a May 8, 1966 recording of the Osseo (Minnesota) high school band, John Kowalke directing. The guest trumpeter is Carl “Doc” Severinsen, who solos on half of the ten (10) tracks, identified below with a DS. Those selections are “Minuteman”, “Ballet Parisien”, “Portrait for Trumpet” DS, “Danza Alegro” DS, “Misty”, “Latina”, “La Virgen de la Macarena” DS, “Summer Time” DS, “Carnival of Venice” DS and “Mary Poppins”. This is a private pressing marked as Ark Recording Company #50866. Ark is a division of Fulton Electronics from Minneapolis. It came to me in a generic white jacket with no additional information about the date. Side 1 has a couple of very noticeable long scars. These aren’t scratches but the sort of marks I usually refer to as fingernail-type scuffs. They would have been made with a non-sharp object and are not “feelable”. I played the whole side through and only heard occasional soft clicks. The music was clear and robust. Side two looks about like new with no such detractions.
