The (rare) monaural release contains different song mixes from the more common stereo edition and also features a way more deep bold punch in the mono sound production playback

The first album contained the main ingredients of its unique musical stew THE DEAD would brew up over the coming years. Upon its release in March 1967, it brought the musical and philosophical ideals of the freak counter-culture out of the San Francisco hippie scene and into the ears of mainstream America.

"The Golden Road (To Unlimited Devotion)" is a Summer Of Love anthem nonpareil. "Good Morning Little Schoolgirl" shows off the Dead's ability to reinterpret the blues, and Pigpen's natural front-man qualities. The hyperactive rockabilly of Jesse Fuller's "Beat It On Down The Line" and the rearranged traditionals "Sitting On Top Of The World" and "Cold Rain And Snow" are proof that, despite the group's anti-establishment fashions, their lyrical symbols and musical forms were as time-honored as the English folk-tale that provided their name. While the cover of Bonnie Dobson's eerie anti-war epic "Morning Dew" and the women-and-wine rocker "New, New Minglewood Blues" are energetic portrayals of hippie values, the closing number, Noah Lewis's "Viola Lee Blues," is the album's grand, mind-blowing concoction and a highlight.

CONDITION: the cover has some about half of the original factory shrink wrap still in tact  (M-),  there is light cover wear on the exposed portion of front cover (VG+), telling us this partial wrapper was in place for many years. The back cover has all shrink wrap pretty much snuggly in place, M-  ... otherwise solid;  NO seam splits, no bends  Still, with rarity of the monaural issue in regard, a  keeeeper copy!

The vinyl is shiny VG+(+) only some light scuffs/marks, nothing too bad,  plays top level ENJOYABLE ...

A  GREAT ADDITION  TO ANYONES COLLECTIBLES!
