Muddy Waters is obviously one of the most recognized and influential blues artists of this century. When his name is mentioned phrases like "slide guitar" and "electric Chicago blues" are associated with it, but what about "wah-wah" and "psychedelic"? For a small period in history, Muddy Waters' image became one of a psychedelic icon and if there weren't records still around from then, most people would doubt it had ever happened.
ELECTRIC MUD actually makes an odd kind of sense. In retrospect, its mating of Muddy's Chicago blues with a Cream-like, semi-psychedelic blues-rock sound merely places the blues godfather in amidst the world he helped inspire, if not create. Heavy blues-rock bands of the late '60s like Cream and Led Zeppelin would never have existed had Muddy not harnessed the power of electricity as a vehicle for his big-sounding blues in the '50s.
ELECTRIC MUD is dominated by a fuzz guitar so unabashedly over-the-top it's downright endearing. All the trappings of the period are thrown into the mix: blues/heavy grooves, fuzz bass, wah-wah pedal, etc. There's even a rush of backwards guitar at the beginning of a rocked-up take on "Mannish Boy." Electric Mud is not blues at all; it's a very tight and rocking psychedelic band with obvious avantgarde leanings fronted by Muddy and playing out of Muddy's book. For instance, take "I Just Want To Make Love To You": The solo on this song is nothing short of phenomenal. The guitar starts playing some distorted melodic notes then morphs into this gigantic screeching feedback riff becoming louder and wilder then continues to morph from a tearing solo until it reaches this intense mind-bending groove that sounds on the brink of collapse.
Muddy himself seemed to have been ambivalent about this experiment at the time, but later he cooled down considerably, even calling it "dog shit" at some point.

CONDITION: The (real thick) gatefold cover is in strong condition, VG++ to M-, not worn with shelf wear (black covers from 40+ years ago normally show much wear), this copy looks lightly handled, no split seams, no bends, no writing, very 'collectible' looking.
The vinyl still has its original glossy luster, few very small insignificant little hairline suffs (no problem) VG++ playing top level and excellently enjoyable from the start...
A cool addition to anyone's music library!
