Description
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. Because of that dedication, there should be no need to open a resolution dispute before working with us. Please keep in mind, we would prefer to continue to provide you the opportunity to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has become very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our well over 18,000 positive feedback. We use an ultrasonic KLAudio machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~ SHIPPING: USA ~ 1 LP = $4.00 Media Priority rates vary by area; please inquire. EAST OF EDEN were formed in 1967 in Bristol UK by musicians Dave Arbus, Geoff Nicholson and Ron Caines, who had known each other from some past underground groups. The original line-up featured also Steve York on basses and Dave Dufont on drums/percussions. Arbus, after seeing some performances of Jean-Luc Ponty, decided to use the electrified violin as a dominant instrument in the band's sound. In 1968 the band moves to London and signs with Deram Label (responsible for the early prog releases of Decca Records). The next year EAST OF EDEN debuted with ''Mercator projected''.
A spellbinding work from the dawn of the progressive era, Mercator Projected is a harbinger of the progressive future (this album emerged in 1969) and also a challenging and enjoyable LP in its own right. There are few albums to match the status of this one. East Of Eden's true star is Dave Arbus who plays violin, flute, recorder and reeds. This awesomely inventive debut should not be allowed to be forgotten. The lead off track, "Northern Hemispheres" has this incredible low end groove with abrasive violin within a highly infectious melody - a psychedelic head-zone tune that lasts a lifetime. What stays with us also most is the glorious hook of the wonderful "Isadora" ... "Isadora dance, we are entranced" probably works best if you're getting down with the hippie vibe, for dancing flutes and Eastern themes that are draped around deep lyrics. Mercator Projector is also defined by the psychedelic rambles of "Waterways", and perhaps more than anything else the great harp-driven "Centaur Woman " (replete with an impressive fuzz-bass solo courtesy of Steve York).
The melodic side of the band is featured in the melancholic "Bathers," in which violin, organ (from Caines) and recorder are blended to astounding effect. With the subtle drumming of Dave Dufont giving the song added character, this song might well appeal to those who enjoy King Crimson's early ballads. The propulsive "Communion" also features flute prominently, as well as some cute sound effects and even a joke told in another language (they translate everything except the punchline!). "Moth" is another piece that incorporates Eastern style exploration, although it is occasionally interspersed with a glorious Beatlesque melody. It all concludes with the high-octane jazzy/prog/psych jam "In The Stable Of The Sphinx," which is carried away by fine instrumentalists -- spectacular turns on violin and guitar from Arbus and Geoff Nicholson respectively.
