PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Split is not an album for the faint heart, opening as it does with a four part psyched-out epic which was written by ace guitarist Tony McPhee during a panic attack. Perhaps this should indicate that Split is the best place for a newcomer to start, as it’s pretty dense and heavy going stuff, especially in the power-trio format. With an oddly dry and unfussy production (none of that synthetic nonsense on here), this original British release really highlights how the band used the recording studio as a tool, with guitars panning from speaker to speaker and quite remarkable stereo separation when listened to on a pair of headphones. We've certainly not heard many better recorded albums from this era and the simple yet effective studio trickery is best heard throughout the first half of the album.
The second half of the album is a strong selection of early 70s heavy blues rock, with “Cherry Red” being the albums most 'catchy' moment, the rhythm section clattering away in fine form thoughout each of the four songs and McPhee’s guitar work being exemplary throughout.
If you’re an aficionado of late 60s / early 70s hard guitar led rock with powerhouse 'tunes' and don’t mind ploughing through some rather heavy concepts (man), then chances are you’ll find Split an enjoyable listen, if you’re just a little curious and willing to explore something off the beaten track (other than your Zeppelin Lp's) of classic rock for a while, then you should find there is much to admire here.
