Master Of Reality ...Titanic, on the eve of Armageddon, cranking it as the bomb drops... ...........................................................................

1971 LAMINATED FLIP-TOP "BOX" BRITISH FIRST PRINTING!

...........................................................................
MASTER OF REALITY was the third album by the British heavy metal band BLACK SABBATH, released in 1971. The album's "darker" or "sludgier" sound was a significant influence on later heavy metal genres known as doom metal and stoner rock -- but in 1971, it was just HEAVY ROCK...and heaviest to ever rock the mighty Sabbath ....

For the recording of this album, guitarist Tony Iommi, who had injured his fingers in a factory accident years earlier, decided to de-tune his guitar down three semi-tones (or one and a half steps to C-sharp). This reduced string tension, thus making the guitar easier for him to play. Geezer Butler also de-tuned his bass guitar to match Iommi. The result was a noticeably "darker" or "sludgier" sound.

The album's opening track, "Sweet Leaf," a salute to one of the band's favorite smokeable substances, contains one of rock's heaviest guitar riffs, courtesy of Tony Iommi. Another eternal band favorite is the grim, post-nuclear war tale "Children of the Grave." Vocalist Ozzy Osbourne is in fine voice on "After Forever" and "Lord of this World," while the more tranquil "Solitude" and the instrumental Iommi compositions "Embryo" and "Orchid" offer a bit of variety. Though not quite as influential as PARANOID, MASTER OF REALITY remains one of heavy rock's founding gems.

While other frontrunners of hard rock/metal like Led Zeppelin and Deep Purple began dabbling in other musical forms (folk and string symphonies, respectively), Black Sabbath stuck close to its original direction and was rewarded with several of the most enduring rock releases of all time. Coming off the worldwide breakthrough of the band's 1971's landmark, PARANOID, MASTER OF REALITY (released the same year) proved to be Sabbath's third classic in a row. Like all Sabbath albums of the era, not a second of filler is present--even the lesser-known material is superb.

CONDITION: The cover: rated: Specially designed & embossed (raised lettering) LAMINATED British made box set with "flip top" closure on back cover pocket (see photo #2.) Hard to find and highly wanted is the original Swirl Vertigo UK issue and as this is a hard to find BIG teen party album from 1971, finding a clean copy is a TALL task, rarely happens. This copy has handling crinkle on edges (pretty normal as old UK laminated covers go 48 years later. Bit scuffy lamination and back cover about the same with handling crinkles on the flap-top closure, rated VG(+) for reasons above, though, still is very presentable and looks very attractive under the outer protective plastic cover.  58 years of age original UK flip-top box custom designed SWIRL VERTIGO!
No poster

The vinyl: Rated: VG as numerous liitle soft scuffs, hard to see but there. The good news is while stray audio surface is exists, much of the LP plays superb with no annoying audio issues. Both U.K. SWIRL VERTIGO labels are clean.   .                                                            BLACK SABBATH
