FOGHAT
((1st))
\ USA - Bearsville - 2077
BEAUTIFUL "MINT" 1972 first pressing of the mighty (first) FOGHAT, a ripping rock & roll jam band ...
With "Lonesome" Dave Peverett, Tony Stevens and Roger Earl shakin' loose from the killer Savoy Brown band, in 1971, that had just released the powerful "Looking In" album earlier in the same year... the trio quickly formed Foghat, filling out the quartet with guitarist Rod "The Bottle" Price from the mean ol' "Black Cat Bones" a wicked heavy UK blues band. Signed to Bearsville Records, the group wasted no time gettin' down to bangin' out loose blooze and boogie for the long hair denim clad crowd.
Debuting in '72 with their nine song self-titled LP, the Fogsters blazed a trail from the off with their raucous, four-minute cover of Willie Dixon's "I Just Want to Make Love to You". The energized remake wasn't the lone non-Foghat penned track from the Dave Edmunds produced effort, as the boys also took a swing at "Maybelline". However, their scorching "I Just Want to Make Love to You" would remain a cornerstone cut during Foghat's live performances throughout the wild seventie's, which provided the link to the band's roots as they toured relentlessly. Foghat played anywhere... anytime.
The Foghat album adds the loose jammin' vibe of "Highway (Killing Me)", the cool riff cruisin' "A Hole to Hide In", the barroom boogie woogie of "Fools Hall of Fame", "Trouble, Trouble", the hard twangin' "Leavin' Again (Again)", and the building seven-minute closing cut, "Gotta Get to Know You."
