\                                              USA - ATLANTIC RECORDS - SD 72220 - PROMO

Original advance release PROMOTIONAL 1972 first pressing vinyl in triple fold-out 'window' cover ... a cover that is almost NEVER found without shelf wear, due to its black cover and almost always with tears at the window ...well, here's a survivor...the dark cover is CLEAN and the window is without bends or tears....

Includes original printed inner sleeve with lyrics.

The very first album from 1972 by the duo Crosby & Nash ....this is a cool album even in the context of the great music that was still being created, regularly, back then, and probably one of Crosby & Nash's most accomplished collaborations. Everything you likely already cherish about these two is present here, heartfelt and immaculate harmonies, strong and distinct compositions from both artists, and superb musicianship -- again provided by the 60's elite of California's session players.

When it comes to specific songs, it's more a matter of personal choices than objective hierarchies. Nash's songs are particularly moving and fiercer -as much as "fierce" is ever something to be said about Graham Nash- than anything in "Songs For Beginners." Crosby's pieces carry the wonderful dramatic undertow he could invoke -it seems, at will- ever since The Byrds' days and, more poignantly, in his first solo album and CSN&Y's 'Deja Vu.'

All in all, a thing of beauty. No disappointments, no proverbial "black holes." Their 'stoned raps' between the tracks are priceless ... All in all a great example of the significant music that you could still expect to hear in the early seventies, before that decade turned grandiose...all tracks are exclusive versions found only here:

  • Side one
  • "Southbound Train" (Nash) – 3:54
  • "Whole Cloth" (Crosby) – 4:35
  • "Blacknotes" (Nash) – 0:58
  • "Strangers Room" (Nash) – 2:28
  • "Where Will I Be?" (Crosby) – 3:22
  • "Page 43" (Crosby) – 2:56
  •
  • Side two

  • "Frozen Smiles" (Nash) – 2:17
  • "Games" (Crosby) – 4:02
  • "Girl to Be on My Mind" (Nash) – 3:27
  • "The Wall Song" (Crosby) – 4:37
  • "Immigration Man" (Nash) – 3:02

CONDITION: The cover: The triple gatefold is really hard to find in any sort of clean condition being all dark with a fragile window cover...this copy a real survivor @ VG++ to "EX" (excellent) clean with just some real minor stuff like tiny delete notch at lower right side, light spider crease at top, very minor corner bump, dayglow orange promo sticker at top left which raises the value as limited pressing. The inside of the triple fold is M- clean as is the back cover. No split sweams, no writing and VERY collectible as a limited promotional to a classic West Coast rock album from 1972.

The vinyl: With clean labels, the grooves all glossy clean and clear M- looks like a keeper with no upgrade needed....

A cool addition to anyone's music library!
