PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office.Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! The Raspberries on their "Side 3" Lp deliver full excellence, mixing melodies in the Beatles style with power like The Who. Together with Badfinger the Raspberries defined the genre power-pop...
As it is often stated, image is everything. In the fickle music biz, the Raspberries were a classic example of an early seventies group caught between a rock and hard place in the all-important image department. The group, featuring Eric Carmen, possessed serious talent and song writing skills. The Raspberries leaned heavily on sixties British bands, such as The Who and The Beatles, as well as state-side hit-makers The Beach Boys and The Byrds for inspiration. Unfortunatley, the quartet was coming from the wrong place (rusted-out Ohio), at the wrong time, the self indulgent, extended jam era dominated by heavy hitters such as Led Zeppelin, Deep Purple and Black Sabbath.
The Raspberries sixties sensibilities were out of step with the times. The posed chior boy cover shot for the band's second LP, Fresh, just didn't fit in with the era. In addition, the big brass at Capitol Records were more concerned with pushing Eric Carmen at the Tiger Beat magazine audience, while the band was trying in vein to be taken seriously.
After releasing their first two studio LP's and several hot singles, including the power pop classic "Go All the Way" and "I Wanna Be With You", the Raspberries took to the studio in March of 1973, in an attempt to breakaway from their teen dream image. The collection of songs recorded for the band's third LP, Side 3, once again illustrate the Raspberries ability to pen infectious power-pop rock songs. However, despite the cool advance single, "Tonight", Side 3 was met with an overall lack of interest (see heavy rock of the times, above). The writing was on the wall when the LP failed to break successfully.
Issued in September of '73, with the cover coated in scratch 'n' sniff five-and-dime scented raspberry, Side 3 boasts the smokin' "Ecstasy", another in a long line of cool power pop songs from the band, as well as Dave Smalley's "Hard to Get Over a Heartbreak", and the upbeat boogie of "I'm A Rocker". In addition, guitarist Wally Bryson's "Last Dance" showcases the band branching out in their approach. Despite the quality cuts, the Raspberries were no longer able to move singles, which executives from Capitol primarily wanted from the group, and album sales were insignificant as Side 3 only reached number 128 on the LP chart. To make matters worse, the tour in support of Side 3 was a financial disaster. Np matter, in the end, the Raspberries remain an overlooked group who have a strong cult following and worthy of collection attention in their ability to create power-pop perfection ala the Who, Badfinger and the Beatles, not to forget BIG STAR....
