Junior Wells Chicago Blues Band

Hoodoo Man Blues

Delmark DS-612

1965 or 1966

I bought this LP in March, 1976.  Back then all the discount stores, drug stores, record stores all sold discounted records.  You can see from the price tag I couldn’t pass it up.  It is NOT a cutout.  No holes, no corner cuts.

It has the shrink wrap on it, with the original price tag on the shrink. The Delmark logo is on the cover, under the price tag. The number “722” is written on the price tag under “1.97”.  The vinyl has no scratches, very clean. The cover has no tears, minor corner bumps from shelving. The sleeve is plain white paper.  Lightly and seldom played.

This was recorded in 1965 and released late that year or 1966.  This is Junior Wells front and center, power singing, outstanding harp.  Buddy Guy adds his genius on guitar.  Yes, they do the “Hound Dog” we all know and love, as well as “Good Morning Schoolgirl” and “Early In The Morning”.  These last two may be tributes to the magnificent John Lee “Sonny Boy” Williamson.  What harp player can avoid his influence?  Who now isn’t influenced by Junior?

Junior Wells stands tall in the Chicago harmonica field, and this LP presents him at his best.  I couldn’t pass it up back then, can you pass it up now?
