OKEH 4994:

ARTIST/GROUP:  Fiddlin' John Carson

TITLE(S):  "You Will Never Miss Your Mother Until She Is Gone" / "Papa's Billy Goat"

DESCRIPTION:  "Fiddling Solo, Vocal Chorus"

GRADE:  Very Good Minus (V-)

CONDITION NOTES:  Record labels are crisp and bright with light scuffs, scratches, wear, and wear around the spindle holes.  Record surfaces are fairly glossy but have visible scratches, scuffs, and areas of graying.  This item plays with good fidelity, decent volume, and surface noise.

The original sleeve has numerous small creases and folds, is slightly brittle, small tears along top opening, small split on bottom seam, black marker writing on sleeve, some edge wear, and this item has yellowed due to age.

OKEH 40457:

ARTIST/GROUP:  Mr. & Mrs. J. Douglas Swagerty

TITLE(S):  "The Rock That Is Higher Than I" / "My Mother's Bible"

DESCRIPTION:  "Sacred Duet with Organ acc. by Mrs. R.M. Forster" 

GRADE:  Very Good Plus (V+)

CONDITION NOTES:  Record labels are crisp and bright with light scuffs, scratches, wear, and wear around the spindle holes.  Record surfaces are glossy with a few visible scratches, scuffs, and a few small areas of graying.  This item plays with nice fidelity, excellent volume, and light surface noise.

 GRADING IS CONSERVATIVE USING THE VJM RECORD GRADING SYSTEM:

N (78). As new and unplayed (there are virtually no 78s that can categorically be claimed to be unplayed).

N- (78). Nearly Mint, but has been played. No visible signs of wear or damage.

E+ (78). Plays like new, with very, very few signs of handling, such as tiny scuffs from being slipped in and out of jackets.

E  (78). Still very shiny, near new looking, with no visible signs of wear, but a few inaudible scuffs and scratches.

E- (78). Still shiny but without the luster of a new record, a few light scratches and scuffs.

V+ (78).  An average condition 78 in which scuffs and general use has dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is moderate but playing is generally free from distortion. Surface noise not overly pronounced.

V (78). Moderate, even wear throughout, but still very playable. Surface noise and scratches audible but not intrusive.

V- (78). Quite playable still, but distortion and heavy graying in loud passages. Music remains loud in most passages. Surface noise and scratches well below music level.

G+ (78). Grey throughout but still serviceable. Music begins to sound muffled. Heavy scratches.

G (78). Quite seriously worn and scratched, but music level is still higher than surface noise.
