SUPERIOR laminated-(inside & out) gatefold TWO-LP set, a finely constructed 2ndpress limited edition by this talented crew called COB who created this 1972 classic progressive UK folkpsych album of great taste and appeal....includes the 1972 rare LP from the master tapes PLUS another album (circa 1970 cuts) constructed from unreleased tracks + 1st non-Lp 45
Where COB'S 1971's debut 'Spirit of Love' was of its time and place (conceived in an abandoned caravan in the wilds of Cornwall on the rump of mushrooms and marijuana), former-Incredible String Bandolier Clive Palmer helmed his Original Band into even more exotic and esoteric territory when they returned to the studio with producer Ralph McTell and guesting bassist Danny Thompson to make this 'acid folk' ground-breaker. Tapping into folk balladry with an enduring purity and economy, its harmonium and clarinet fuelled song-drones take on a mystical and quasi-religious sonority with Eastern flavouring in the home-grown 'dulcitar', the air of serious purpose more compelling by the presence of the melancholic Palmer.
With bonus tracks in the early 70's period, inc. rare 45 'Blue Morning'/'Bones' plus previously-unreleased contemporary recordings, it's the aural equivalent of dope smoke breezing through a summer's dusk to your tent flap.
The Lp is impossibly delicate and fragile, haunted and desolate. A lonely troubadour and his band setting out into the twilight of a time long gone. This record makes you want to abandon the rat race and head of to Bute armd only with your record player, this double album and a blanket. This is an amazing piece of work. If you like your acid-folk with drifting melodies and ghostly reminiscenses -- then do yourself a favour and take it to your heart. Moyshe Mcstiff is an understated masterpiece.
