4 Classic R&R 78s for your juke box or little changer

Welcome to another 7845 ‘batch’ auction. This batch consists of four ‘better-heard-than-seen’ rock and roll 78s for your juke-box or little lo-fi changer. These 78 are far from perfect copies of these classics but should play fine (with a few ticks and a bit of surface noise) in the juke or on your little Califone player. There are some scarce ‘late’ ones in this batch. Good luck.

ELVIS PRESLEY. RCA Victor 7066 (Cdn) Mean Woman Blues/Have I Told You Lately That I Love You.
This is it – one of the ‘holy grails’ of Elvis 78 collecting - the 1957 ‘Canadian only’ Elvis 78 consisting of two songs that were never released as singles in the US, on 78 or 45. Both tunes appeared on Elvis EPs - EPA-2-1515 and EPA-4041, respectively. And, Elvis LPs, of course. This 78 rarely comes up. Good luck.
This 78 visually grades an OK V+ with lots of scuffs, rubs and light scratches. Spot-checked. LOUD pressing plays just fine with some light ticks and some mild surface noise in the quieter parts. Labels have some light wear.

NEIL SEDAKA. RCA Victor 20-7408 (Cdn) The Diary/No Vacancy
Neil’s first top 40 entry - # 14 in late 1958, early 1959 – a time when practically no one was buying their tunes on 78 anymore, making this one scarce critter. Good luck.
This one visually grades a strong V+ with lots of scuffs, rubs and a myriad of mostly harmless surface scratches. There is an edge-chip on the ‘A’ side, not in to the playing area . (You might not want to put this one on your automatic juke box or changer). Thing is, grooves are in decent shape. The disc plays closer to E- with a touch of mild surface noise and a tick or two. Labels have the predictable light wear.

SHEB WOOLEY MGM 12651 (Cdn) The Purple People Eater/I Can’t Believe You’re Mine.
Here’s a scarce mid 1958 disc for your ‘late’ 78 collection. Purple People Eater sat in the # 1 spot for six weeks in mid-1958.

This 78 visually grades a ‘pre-enjoyed’ V+ with loads of scuffs and rubs plus a myriad of mostly harmless surface scratches. Spot-checked. Plays fine with some mild surface noise and the occasional isolated tick. Labels have some wear. There is a side ‘A’ label tear.

THE ELEGANTS. Sparton 620 R (Cdn press of ABC master) Little Star/Getting Dizzy.
Little Star hit # one on July 28 1958.
This rare one looks the worse for wear – visual is V with a hint of shine. Spot-checked, thoroughly. The pressing is LOUD – disc plays not too badly for the grade with the music, for the most part, masking the steady mild surface noise. Labels are fine.

LITTLE RICHARD. Specialty (US) Heebie Jeebies/She’s Got It
No top forty action on this pulsating slab of rock and roll wax from 1956. Great though, as all Little Richard 78s are.

This one looks terrible – visual grade is V- with not much shine left. HOWEVER, I’ve spot-checked and the darned thing plays pretty darned good for how it looks. Should be fine for the heavy armed juke. Labels have some wear, as expected.

Unless otherwise stated, 78s are carefully cleaned by hand before listing. Upon receiving, your only job will be to enjoy the music.
78s come in used but nice vintage green sleeves or, when possible, original paper sleeves.
I do my spot-checking and play testing on a Technics 1200 turntable with a Stanton 500 cartridge using a standard Stanton 2.7 stylus. The amp is a mid-70s Pro-Linear with the mono switch activated. The speakers are small professional recording studio monitors (Yamaha NS 10) that are known for being overly bright – great for spotting that mild surface noise!
I ship 78s as I like to receive them - using the four-sheet 10” cardboard sandwich, foam chips, 12" x 12" x 4 "(or 6") box method.
I use standard 78 grading (E+, E, E-, V+, V, V- etc). I’ll sometimes use double plus or minus signs to really hone in on the shape.

I charge actual postage plus an extra dollar (give or take a few cents, depending on the state of the constantly fluctuating US and Canadian dollars) to help pay for packing materials.
There is no ‘handling charge’ for the time I take to properly pack your precious slab of shellac for safe travel.
