Description

Hi,
We have a few sets of Aluminum / Aluminium Discs listed for sale, PLEASE TAKE A LOOK AT OUR OTHER ITEMS
These discs are from the early 1940's and are to be played with fibre / bamboo needles. Due to the nature of the discs and how they were recorded and manufactured, we believe these discs are probably "one offs" made for radio airplay.  All discs are for the US radio station W.M.C.A
We don't have the relevant equipment to play these discs, so we are unsure if they play at 33rpm or 78rpm. All discs are 12" and nearly all look like they have recorded material on both sides.
These discs all appear to be US radio interviews of the British politician Patricia Struass.  Strauss was also a war correspondent for the New York Herald Tribune in the 1940's. According to Wikipedia she toured the US in 1942 giving speeches, so it's reasonable to presume these aluminium discs were probably recorded / broadcast during this visit. Please check the Wikipedia page:
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Patricia_Strauss

This item is:
4 x 12" Aluminium discs.
All discs are titled "Mrs. Patricia Strauss, Readers' Almanac"". 2 discs are dated 11/30/42, the other 2 discs are dated 12/23/41 - presumable 2 separate radio programmes.
It's difficult for us to grade these records.  From a little research about Aluminum Discs on Wikipedia, we believe the sound quality on these discs was average at best! In the main there aren't many scratches on the discs, but there are some marks from the sleeves / staining / light corrosion? Maybe these discs will clean up? In the main they look to be in around VG condition.
Sides 2 & 4 from the 12/23/41 interview have quite a lot of scratches, more so on side 2, (this side grades G), this can hopefully be seen in the photos
PLEASE ZOOM IN ON THE PHOTOS TO TAKE A GOOD LOOK AT THE CONDITION OF THE DISCS, the photos are definitely part of the description!
The sleeves look like they are the original sleeves, quite a few of these have come unglued or have splits
Records shipped out of the sleeves in strong mailers.
Shipping is a little expensive to help cover the insurance cost of this lp. All customs fees / import duties are the full responsibility of the buyer.
Always happy to combine postage.
