Description
A SERIOUS 4AD RARITY. I've tried to research this before I sold it, but I cannot find anything about it. Here's the deal - I was OBSESSED with Vaughan Oliver and 4AD as a teen in highschool - so much so I wrote to Vaughan (embarrassingly) several times and he responded twice: once with posters, once with this. It is a limited edition vhs tape. It is #6 out of 100. The catalogue number is VAD D 9993 (which I don't think really exists). So I am assuming it was made in 1993. Here's what is says on the cover: ******* an hour long documentary on 23 envelope featuring interviews with Vaughan Oliver and Nigel Grierson as well as commentary by Colourbox, Cocteau Twins and Ivo. Contains rare unused 23 Envelope designs and promo music videos: Cocteau Twins - "Aikea Guinea" "Pearly Dew Drops' Drops", This Mortal Coil - "Song to the Siren" "Kangaroo", Colourbox "Shotgun", Modern English "Chapter 12", Yazoo "Nobodys Diarhea". Also included is the award-winning, full-length video for "Sixteen Days Gathering Dust" by This Mortal Coil, and footage of other rare 23 Envelope and 4AD collector's items. Extensive liner notes are also included.***** I will be including the signed postcard that Vaughan Oliver sent with the video. I do not have a vhs and don't remember much about it except that it has some shots of the 23 envelope studios in london and some footage of the cocteau twins looking like they are on drugs : ) ****If you have ANY questions about this item, please ask me before bidding because I am selling this AS IS****Again, this is a VHS tape.
On Oct-30-07 at 09:02:04 PDT, seller added the following information:Hi There, I do ship internationally. I just transfered a copy of this to dvd for myself. The very beginning (about 5 to 10 seconds) is rough and then it clears up. This is a 10yr old vhs - it's obviously very rare and you won't be finding it around - like I said I can't find any information on it. I haven't watched the whole thing, but there is a very young Vaughan, Ivo and Nigel. There is a Yaz video - apparently Nigel took the photo for their first album, etc. Robin Guthrie looks like a weird toothless monster (funny). You get to see the 23 envelope studios - it's pretty cool! It's very watchable and occassionally you get a very brief rough spot. I hope this helps your decision to bid or not. -ryan
