Excellent copy of this private label rock release out of Belaire, Texas (southwest of Houston). The disc is beautiful and the cover is too. This is a classic Houston area LP sporting late 1960s values that rarely turns up. I did some research and on August 20, 2014, the Discogs site sold a copy for $254.52, plus postage. I was going to start the bidding at $6000 but decided against scaring folks off (OK, that’s a lie, I’m just making sure you’re paying attention). Honestly, I’m gonna start this LP out in a fair price range and see what happens. If you pick it up on the cheap, good for you. Really. Everybody loves a deal. If you pay through the snoot, I sure hope you like it.
On the badcatrecords web site, I found the following review from the site manager who bought a copy years ago: “To be honest, the only reason I picked this one up was that I vaguely remembered seeing the cover in one of Hans Pokora's "Record Collector Dreams" books. Curiously, there's virtually nothing to be found on the web about this Texas-based sextet. From the liner notes on their sole self-titled LP I can tell you that the band line up consisted of drummer Louie Broussard, woodwind player Richard Cantu, singer/keyboardist Greg Isaacs, bassist Mike St. Clair, lead guitarist and brass player Stewart Rojo. Released by the small Bellaire, Texas-based Solar Recording Corporation, 1970's "4th Cekcion" was produced by Fred Carroll. Credited with writing all 11 tracks, singer Isaacs seemed to be somewhat of a musical chameleon putting together material that bounces between genres. 'Open Your Eyes' showcases some psych-ish moves while 'Betsy Lee' sports blue eyed soul, etc. As lead singer he was also somewhat of a chameleon. His performances were all quite good. The results were never less than interesting with a couple of numbers including 'Betsy Lee' and 'Find Yourself Another Way' worth multiple spins.
