Description
50s Rocker Garage Rockabilly Ronnie Ray 45 Record MN ND
Listen to: Mean Mama Blues & The Vulture This record is RED HOT and the fact that I listed a second copy of this record a few weeks back and which sold for over $230.00 is testament to that.
Ronnie Ray and the Playboys are known for having recorded the first significant instrumental song to emerge from the Fargo, North Dakota 60s music scene . That song “The Vulture” is the B-side to this single and has also been added into the embedded auction player.
Ron Rekken, then a freshman at Concordia College, took a Playboys lineup that included Larry McCrehin, Pete Beck and Bruce Carney into the Circle-Dot Studio in Minneapolis and recorded “The Vulture” (a McCrehin composition) in October 1959. “The Vulture” was released in January 1960 and nearly edged out “Muleskinner Blues” by The Fendermen atop KXGO’s Fabulous Fifty Survey, settling in one week at #2.
Both collectors of 60s Garage Bands as well as Rockabilly Fans are going to want to add this record to their collection. I live just a few hours south of Fargo and have been fortunate to find a couple of these gems. Pull the most current (2008) Jerry Osborne Rockin' Records guide off the shelf and look this one up...yep, it really is that rare!
The overall condition of this record is VG++. This record has the following flaws:
- First, there is a small amount of ink pen writing on the center label of "the Vulture" side. It says "L-1" and "6-60". Adjacent to the 6/60 there is a small stain on the paper label.
- Second, also on "the Vulture" side there is a light surface rub (perhaps from a jukebox?) at the 2 o'clock position; as seen in the image above. This in NO way affects play.
- Third, there are some very very faint paper sleeve scuffs on both sides of this record.
In summary, the "Mean Mama Blues" side is an outstanding VG++ to VG+++, however with the aforementioned flaws on the flip side...the "Vulture" side is a VG+ to VG++.
If you are unhappy with my grading of this record, I offer a full money back refund (including postage) upon the record's safe return...so take advantage of the weak American dollar and bid with confidence.
Winning bidder pays just $4.00 for shipping to anywhere in the world. Please see my other auctions, because whether you one record or several...shipping is still just $4.00 in sum total!
