Description

There is what I believe to be a Fair Reserve on this item. Listing Note: This is one of approximately 450 Jazz LPs which I’ll be listing over the next couple of months. As you will witness it’s a way-above-average collection representing the recordings from the Golden Age of Modern Jazz (1949-1965) and consisting of a goodly number of both American Originals and many fine reissues (many of which are Japanese issues -- being new, like-new or near mint copies). But sorry, it looks like only this one Mosaic set.

MOSAIC RECORDS 5-LP boxed set: Long out of print, I think this is a fair starting price, and a conservative reserve mark.

The Complete Verve Recordings of The Buddy DeFranco Quartet/Quintet with Sonny Clark: MOSAIC MR5-117 [Limited Edition – one of 7500 copies]. (Condition: records were obviously played carefully and/or seldom, most would be classified as near mint -- maybe a couple of sides VG++. /\ The booklet is in excellent shape. The box’s corners are intact. The front photo is VG++, but there is the beginning of a front top seam split – not serious and not unusual for these 5+ record sets, but it should be mentioned.) || These are prime recordings of a 1954 working group led by the great modern clarinetist and featuring the young Sonny Clark, recorded that year. They worked with the confident battery of Gene Wright (b) & Bobby White (d). The quartet became a quintet in 1955 w/ the addition of Tal Farlow. /\ Most of the more than thirty, long-play tracks come from the DeFranco Norgran or Verve albums: Jazz Tones (N-1068) / In A Mellow Mood (N-1079) / Odalisque (N-1094) / Autumn Leaves (N-1096) / Cookin’ the Blues (V-8221) / Sweet & Lovely (V-8224). ||| Even though the clarinet has made a minor sort of comeback in the past couple of decades or so, it’s still pretty much of a "loony aunt in the attic" kind of instrument as far as Bop and Hard Bop goes. This was especially true in the modern jazz of the 50’s. It’s easy to hear how unfortunate that was (and still is) in regard to DeFranco. Lot’s of great ideas, solos and great swinging in these sides and the fact that Clark is involved puts this way over the top for collectors. || [RE: SpcK] || Notes on mailing and mailing charges are in the following paragraphs. ||

*** NOTICE ON MAILING: I feel that my eBay rating & feedback assures buyers that I am a responsible seller (& buyer). One who follows through on deals and that goes out of his way to be fair in the rare case of dispute. Yet to buyers new to my operation, here goes:

1.) I only use USPS.

2.) I guarantee that packages will be correctly addressed and safely packed. (That’s why I ask buyers to respond via email with their mailing address. I cut it out and tape it to the address label.)

3.) I will take NO Responsibility for LOSS of UNINSURED packages. I’ll say it another way, no refunds on lost packages, if they are not insured.

4.) I know that this can be a hardship, especially for International Buyers due to the prohibitive expense of mailing & insuring Parcel Post, which is the only way insured packages can be sent outside of the USA. Insurance is not available for the cheaper Letter-Post delivery. Yet keep in mind that out of about 2000 items that we’ve mailed throughout the world, only a mere handful (perhaps 5 or 6) has not been delivered. So the odds are extremely good that International Packages will arrive safely. But the buyer (domestic or international) is the one who takes the chance.

5.) This goes for domestic items too: no refunds on undelivered, uninsured packages. As to insured domestic packages: it is the responsibility of the buyer to collect insurance on these items. I will provide all appropriate sales documentation; and if necessary, the proper postal forms to the buyer.

Not to put too fine of a point on it -- but if you don’t feel that you can live with the above caveats -- don’t bid on my items. If you are interested in even more information, I deal with this morbid subject in even greater, excruciating detail on my Website (see above link). Thanks for your time. Regards, Berigan
