Description

Up for sale are 5 78 rpm records by the Original Dixieland Jazz Band, which was the first jazz group to make a record. Included in this lot is their first commercially released disc: Livery Stable Blues b/w Dixieland Jazz Band One Step. At the time this record was made in February 1917, the brass band style popular in new orleans and the surrounding south was still being referred to as "Jass," thus the session was credited to the Original Dixieland "Jass" Band and the labels bear this same spelling. The other titles are Clarinet Marmalade Blues b/w Mournin Blues, Bow Wow Blues b/w Railroad Blues, Home Again Blues b/w Crazy Blues and Margie b/w Palesteena. The Livery Stable and Dixieland One Step sides show signs light to moderate wear, with the remaining sides showing only very slight wear if at all. None have any scratches and all have maintained high gloss. Very nice examples, especially considering all 5 records are now at least 100 years old! Please feel free to message me with a question and/or offer as I will respond to you promptly.  UPDATE: I have managed to track down a second copy of the livery stable blues b/w ODJB One Step that is in very nice condition, with signs of only very light wear. This record does have a large gash near the beginning of the livery stable side, which may or may not skip but that could also be repaired. I am including both copies of this disc so that you can select which one you prefer or keep both.
