Description
PLEASE READ BEFORE BIDDING: Please read the entire auction listing, including shipping costs, before writing to ask a question. OUR GOAL IS CUSTOMER SATISFACTION. In order to meet that goal, we will ALWAYS work with our customers on any concerns that may arise. In the unlikely instance that you feel the need to open a resolution dispute before working with us, you will immediately be blocked from any further chance to acquire the rare music we present each and every week. Payment is required within seven days. We mail all paid items ONE WEEK after auctions end. Please keep in mind our listings are time consuming in detail and we are often traveling to find these gems, which at times delays the delivery schedule by a day or two. We ALWAYS process and ship every paid order. We have no control over parcels once they are mailed from our local Post Office. Overseas mail to some countries (Italy, Russia, France, in particular) has became very slow. Opening a dispute for slow mail is unacceptable and will result in blocking the bidder. We work hard to provide excellent service as is represented by our 8000 plus positive feedback. We use a VPI machine and thoroughly clean all records. Each order is carefully packaged by removing the LP from the jacket to avoid seam splits, use of 3 ml plastic cover sleeves over each LP and jacket, cardboard pad inserts, and placed in sturdy record mailers for safe delivery. We take Customer Service seriously, and want you to be satisfied. Please give us 5 stars in each category through the feedback system, and we will be able to effectively continue to fulfill your passion for rare and collectible music! We have served thousands of satisfied customers - far more than our feedback records indicate - and our aim is to continue to do so. Thank you for your interest and support. ~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

MONO FIRST PRINT WITH BACK-FLAP SEAMS
John E Sharpe & The Squires along with the A-CADS were probably the best two garage/beat bands to emerge out of South Africa during the mid '60s ... Stands to reason both groups albums are impossible to find as first pressings and as a result in high demand. Few past copies have auctioned for $400 - $600 - no mint copies sold.
Currently no other original copies on eBay and haven't been for some time when only one copy avail (with photo-copy cover no less) is avail over on Discogs and that's $300 incomplete as it is...
The band was South Africa’s answer to The Rolling Stones.
JOHN E. SHARPE and the SQUIRES had a reputation for being one of the best groups from the Johannesburg Africa teen-beat 'live' scene in the mid-1960s. The band’s lone album “Maybelline” is now almost impossible to find in ANY condition and is regarded as one of the best South African records from the 1966 era. Recordings of the album proceeded at South Africa's Gallo Studios on a four-track machine. Not many overdubs or clever tweaking. A nearly “live” recording in a true GARAGE style.
John E Squire was a busy man in the 60s. He played in The Hustlers, The Deans, John E Sharpe & The Squires, Impulse, Board Of Directors, Crystal Drive and Music Corporation as well as working with Quentin E Klopjaeger and The Gonks. He also ran the Downstairs Club in Johannesburg and set up MSC Studio.
As John E Sharpe & The Squires they produced just one album – ‘Maybelline’ which opened with the cracking ‘Monkey Shine’. The song was also released as a single and is two and a half minutes of rushing, banging, howling, barraging beat sounds that would have the music speed cops after them in a second if such a law enforcement establishment existed. It is psychedelic on speed and has attracted enough international interest to be included on the compilation ‘Let’s Dig ‘Em Up!!!’ series. Way cool take on the Pretty Things shouter "L.S.D." and lots more alike ... If you can lay your hands on this incredibly entertaining album, stick it on your turntable and go ape!.

CONDITION: The cover: rated: VG; by the photo it DOES look better than VG and is collection worthy by the fact there are no perfect copies, but has minor some issues at edges, etc. The lamination is peeling at bottom left. Handling crinkles & creases around the edges, one predominate crease at mid pocket opening to bottom right. Tape pull tear on back cover only, front again is pretty clean, just wear around edges. Still serves as a collection keeper when any condition copy is as rare as they come...
The vinyl: Rated: VG+ original shine has some small stuff, little scuffs, light hairlines, nothing amounts to causing audio problems and as a result there is excellent audio playback throughout both sides...
A cool addition to anyone's music library!
