272. DECCA 78 RPM RECORDS ~ 4-FOR-1 MONEY/BID!
FOUR ONE-SIDED TEST PRESSINGS BY BING CROSBY FROM LATE 1930'S
U.S. BIDDERS ONLY, PLEASE.
BACKGROUND:For your consideration are these four Decca test pressing records from the late 1930's. These originally belonged to my grandparents and they were found after they had passed and their estate was being settled. These records were found in a back closet. I have no idea but suspect that these sides were eventually issued. At any rate, they had been stored for a long time. These items are really neat and would make great additions to anyone's record and/or dance band library!
DESCRIPTION: These records are 10 inches in diameter, have one song per side, and play at 78 rpm. Each side has a plain white label with the song title and/or matrix number hand-written on them. The backs are blank with no logos or imprints. Research suggests that the Decca matrices on these date them to 1938/9 and that they were recorded by Crosby in Los Angeles.
Test pressing mx. DLA1314A is "Silver on the Sage. The second record is mx. DLA 1721A "Sing a Song of Sunbeams". The third record is mx. DLA 1742A "If I Had My Way". The fourth record is mx. DLA 1753A (also has 2535B written on label) is "It Must Be True". Again, all of these are one-sided with hand-written information on plain white labels.
CONDITION: These items are being graded visually; I have not played them. All four are in the same condition and would grade "E" to "E-" (Excellent). They are all dirty and dusty and could use a good cleaning. All of these items also have some random light surface scratches and scuffs on them.
Condition issues aside, these records are unique and are survivors. They still have very shiny surfaces, and there are no visible cracks, deep scratches, digs, chips, or water damage on any of them. These items would make great additions to anyone's Crosby or 78 rpm record library!
