Description
78 RPM Record - Test Pressing - Doris Day- 1949 - Columbia Records - Very Rare and Unique
No more than two of these are believed to exist. They were produced as part of the production process, in very limited quantities, so that the artist and the engineers could evaluate sound quality before the record was released to the general public. Most test pressings were destroyed, but occasionally one was kept as a souvenir. This is one of those souvenirs.
If you'll look at the labels on this record, they tell a story. Beginning with the top half of the label: "Test Pressing, Property of Columbia Records." Columbia usually did a good job of controlling these, because they didn't want the general public to get hold of them. The "Matrix No. 38638" was the record number assigned to the release record. Every 78 has one. The "for sale" record was released in Dec 1949 on a Columbia red label with this number.
You will probably never have another chance to own such a rare item. If you want it, you'd better grab it now before someone else does.
