Description
Up for auction is a 1928 Jazz 78 RPM record by Fess Williams & His Joy Boys (actually Dave Peyton's Regal Theater Orchestra...their only recording) on Vocalion 15690.
The sides are Drifting And Dreaming & Dixie Stomp.

Dave Peyton (ca. 1885 – May 1955) was an American songwriter, pianist, arranger, orchestra leader, and music critic columnist for the Chicago Defender.
Peyton first began as a pianist in the trio of Wilbur Sweatman, where he played from 1908 to 1912. Following this Peyton led his own ensembles in various theaters in Chicago. His sidemen included Charlie Allen, George Mitchell, Bob Shoffner, Reuben Reeves, Kid Ory, Bud Scott, Jasper Taylor, Jimmy Bertrand, Baby Dodds, Preston Jackson, Darnell Howard, Jerome Don Pasquall, and Lee Collins. While he only recorded under his own name once (with Richard M. Jones), his orchestra also recorded in 1928 under Fess Williams's name. In the 1930s he led an orchestra at the Regal Theater, and later played solo piano in bars and nightclubs. He also worked as a music contractor, filling orchestras with personnel upon request.
Peyton is best remembered for his songs, some of which became major hits; among them were the standard "I Ain't Got Nobody" and the tunes "Hey Stop Kissin' My Sister" and "Roumania", both performed by Fats Waller.]

The VJM Record Grading System For 78 RPM:
N As new and unplayed (there are virtually no 78s that can categorically be claimed to be unplayed).
N- Nearly Mint, but has been played. No visible signs of wear or damage.
E+ Plays like new, with very, very few signs of handling, such as tiny scuffs from being slipped in and out of jackets.
E Still very shiny, near new looking, with no visible signs of wear, but a few inaudible scuffs and scratches.
E- Still shiny but without the luster of a new record, few light scratches.
V+ is an average condition 78 in which scuffs and general use has dulled the finish somewhat. Wear is moderate but playing is generally free from distortion. Surface noise not overly pronounced.
V Moderate, even wear throughout, but still very playable. Surface noise and scratches audible but not intrusive.
V- Quite playable still, but distortion and heavy graying in loud passages. Music remains loud in most passages. Surface noise and scratches well below music level.
G+ Gray throughout but still serviceable. Music begins to sound muffled. Heavy scratches.
G Quite seriously worn and scratched, but music level is still higher than surface noise.
G- Music still prominent, but wear and scratch damage extensive.
F Most of music remains audible over surface noise, but listening now uncomfortable.
P Unplayable.
