ED KIRKEBY AND THE CALIFORNIA RAMBLERS -- COLUMBIA 2560-D Concentratin' (On You) // When I Wore My Daddy's Brown Derby-- Condition: E+ // E+* The California Ramblers back to perform two tunes late in their Columbia recording career. Both of these were recorded in New York, 10-11/1931 just before the group went to Bluebird (Victor), with many of the same great musicians that were floating in and out of Columbia in those deep depression days. Concentratin', is by far, the best of the two sides, featuring a nice vocal by Elmer Feldkamp and nice solos (trumpet right off and nice rhythmic cymbals) to add to the enjoyment. The Daddy's Brown Derby side ---, is, well, what it is (the full name of the tune is: When I Wore My Daddy's Brown Derby (And You Wore Your Mother's Blue Gown). a cute little reminiscence about growing up, sang by a male duet, one of which is obviously Feldkamp, the other is not known; a nice fox trot and good overall tune. The Condition needs some explaining: If you look at the picture with the lam crack identified, you will see that this side is the only side affected. Concentratin' plays beautifully, so have no fear. The lam crack does sound a bit during the Daddy's -- vocal, but other than than it too plays ok. The record appears to never have been sold, since there are no spindle hole dents, and the record has virtually no surface noise, save for a few light crackles. As with all records purchased from me, they are cleaned with the VPI professional Record Washing System, so the sides are free of grit and dirt and they are CLEAN!
This is part of a huge collection that I am trying to get posted on EBAY. Since there are now others posted from me, I will happy to combine orders to save shipping costs, since it costs very little more to ship six records as it does to ship one! However, any record agreed to be held, must be paid for with 48 hours, or they will be put up for second chance offers. It is impossible to tie us all of the income from "held" records, for, what could be weeks, without payment. Unless otherwise noted, records are shipped in plain manilla sleeves and shipped in heavy cardboard boxes with double pieces of cardboard top and bottom and the middle (if the the shipment is large enough) and packed with popcorn and/or bubble material.
