Titles

CAVATINA FROM "RUSALKA"

Label

RUSSIAN BERLINER GRAMOPHONE RECORD – G.C. 22519 10"

Condition IMPOSSIBLE TO GRADE THESE DISCS USING VJM GRADING, THIS DISC IS CLEAN, AND WITHOUT DIGS AND CRACKS, THE PLAYING SURFACE SHOWS SOME LIGHT GREYING BUT PLAYS VERY WELL FOR A 125 YEAR OLD RECORD
Notes:  A PHENOMENALLY RARE 10"  Russian-manufactured / Russian-pressed 10-inch Berliner Gramophone, recorded in Moscow in June 1901 and reproduced in Russia for the Russian market. The first successful batch of roughly 100 ten-inch recordings was made in St Petersburg and Moscow in June 1901 — precisely the batch containing this Sobinov — and he says these were sent to the processing plant in Riga, where they may have been issued without paper labels as true Berliners Sobinov was one of the outstanding Russian lyric tenors of his generation, and this recording comes from the very beginning of his recorded legacy.
