8 Heartbeat Theater C.P. MacGregor Salvation Army 16" Radio Transcription Discs

HEARTBEAT THEATER

These are eight 16" (17" actual) acetate (lacquer) radio transcription discs from the C.P. MacGregor recording studios.  MacGregor does the narration on these stories.  This was a show sponsored by the Salvation Army.  These are lacquer coated aluminum discs.  33 RPM.

Sessions include #s 253, 254, 255, 269, 270, 271, 272 & 273

Session #s are written in pencil on the sleeves. 

I don't know the history of these shows but the discs are one-off recordings.  Since these recordings are "cut", I don't know if they were ever commercially released.  

Possibilities include: They could be secondary copies that were recorded at the same time as the original. It wasn't uncommon for them to use more than one recorder at the time of the performance in case of a failure on one of the recorders.  Possible 2nd generation copies, backups.  These are the same discs that would have been electroplated for making stampers.  All conjecture at this point. 

The date of the recordings is also up in the air.  Judging by the technology it looks to be around 1950.  The recordings are single-side.

 "The Heartbeat Theatre is a serious but uplifting old time radio shows which includes such various topics like bigotry, alcoholism, murder, tornadoes, suicide, train wrecks, small town gossip, public cynicism, loneliness, deadbeat husbands, cheating wives, and old women dying on toboggans." Because of the fragility of these discs, a $10 packaging and handling fee is added into the shipping charges.  Thank you for understanding.
