8 TRACK TAPE Sir Lord Baltimore KINGDOM COME / white cart MC 8-61328 / TESTED

this is a white Audiopak cart, with its back side reading --
 "MC 8-61328"
while the spine reads
"MC 8
 61328" (two lines)

and yep this is the "first band to ever have its music tagged (described) as "heavy metal," early 1971 in the Creem Magazine record review (written by yours truly).  yep EVERY HORRIBLE SUNSET STRIP 1988 BAND who draped themselves in the "we're metal, man" scene's tag (and poser wardrobes, literally hundreds of them out and around the mecca of "loser bands, all welcome.  maybe you'll get a free movie pass to the premiere of Decline of Western Civilization pt 2 THE METAL YEARS") annnd yeah, technically -- it's all on me.  because if you take away that scene-tag, that marketing label for those godawful bands to hide behind -- yeah,  they all disappear in a nano-second.  sorry about that, man!  what do you want me to do, seriously?  I AIN'T SAYING I"M SORRY (for sorry bands called Keel, Black and Blue, Trixter, Firehouse, and never forget the Vinnie Vincent Invasion.  jeez, they must have been over a HUNDRED crap bands signed to major labels out of LA and NYC, between 1984 and 1990!).  oh wait, i forgot (to just name one random band, at random) -- yep, i forgot the Bulletboys.  (one gold album! i'm not lying).  ok, but how horrible were they?  uh, TOTALLY FUCKIN' D.O.A. TYPE OF USELESS!  even before you count their "david lee roth clone on lead vocals" (we're talking haircut plagiarism, man).  "why do you hate 80's 'metal' so much, mike?"  uh, because 1971 BLACK SABBATH and Led Zeppelin and DEEP PURPLE and Uriah Heep '71 and BLUE OYSTER fuckin' CULT (their s/t 1st album at the start of 1972 is my, like, very favorite 'hard rock'/early heavy metal album of all time.  i can even fake my way through half of the songs on rhythm guitar!  genius songs, awesome lyrics (pearlman, meltzer, and others), and uh, HEAVY METAL WAS THE COOLEST SHIT IN THE WORLD in 1971, and all these fuckwads during the 80's just turned it into a dirty word, like "oh, you like metal, you must be an Iron Maiden fan!" (see the steam start to belch out of my head.  iron doofus maiden with the doofus mascot and endless hookless songs weren't fit to tie Black Sabbath 1970 or Blue Oyster Cult 1972's tennis shoes, much less sniff their jockstraps.  and anyone who says, "hey, hey man --" GOES STRAIGHT TO DETENTION HALL where you will be re-educated by locked in that room until you have watched the beyond awesome BLACK SABBATH PARIS 1970 fifty-minutes of musical heavy rock heavy metal g e n i u s, and apolgize for ever even listening to one of those lame judas priest or iron maiden NWOBHM things.  ("wait, are you saying you don't like 80's heavy metal very much?  even the hott girls in spandex?" ARRRRRRRGHHHHHHHH that is my point, that when a genre becomes a "fashion," stick the fork in it, it's dead guys (or girls) walking, and posing in front of every mirror they come past).

but anyway -- if you Google this band's name plus fwiw, my name, man does Google halfway explode (ditto with the "black sabbath" google looking up my name, pulling things written in newsstand music magazines, from back in real time 1972 1973)

some of those articles (of recent times, not the ones i wrote way back when president nixon's Bomb Cambodia reign of terror was the news of the day, pick a day, any day) are really trippy --
this one is my personal favorite.  it's really a great read.  and yes -- hell yes -- WHO was the first teenager in the UK, mid-late 70's, to put "heavy metal band patches" all over their denim jacket?  who?  where? when?  man, i need to know this.  (in the early 70's, such a thing as rock band patches didn't even exist.  except for maybe an official Grand Funk one-- oh wait!  capitol records made some as "promotional giveaways," because i had one (and put it onto a united artists Jan and Dean Bel-Air Bandits t-shirts, who knows why.  probably because -- ha, again -- i didn't even own a demin jacket (they were pretty passe and out of fashion all through the 70's, at least in SWM guy world) --  who were beyond huge (Grand Funk Railroad)
Gr in 1970-71, long before their 'second life' as an AM top 40 hit single band, i.e. We're an American Band, etc.  and definitely the Osmonds.  had patches (in their inner sleeve merchandise).  not exactly heavy metal wardrobe fodder!

BRIEF INTERMISSION -- oh wait, it's getting cut short --

hold on, the gracious host of this page, mr metal midget "ted nugent is not my dad" mike is now woken up from his "where's baseball season" deep slumber, and is going to entertain us all by taking on some of the knottiest questions of the last century --

======================

YOUR HOST ANSWERS IMPORTANT QUESTIONS

("so answer the question, mike.  who killed rock and roll?"  A:  you mean like related to MTV or the MTV era?  Q:  "yes.".  A:  easy answer, man!  that dork named Rikki who hosted that godawful MTV Headbanger's Ball late night show.  Q:  "Rikki Rachtman killed rock and roll?"  A:  yep, that's him.  he and Taime Downe murdered it in the dead of night, and they buried it fifty feet under the ground at the Cathouse.  well that's my story, and i've stuck by it since i dunno, 1995?  the year that grunge music (which did not kill rock and roll, although it might have finished it off if it dead-man-spasm twitched a couple times before the coroner came and dusted its remains up) finally sputtered out and removed itself from any intelligent discourse of Merseybeat vs 70's Heavy Metal vs 60's/70's Bubblegum (spoiler alrert:  black sabbath always wins.  a l w a y s.)  Q:  "i thought you said a hundred times over the last twenty years that it was MoTLeY CRuE that killed rock and roll?"  A:  nope, it was Rikki Rachtman.  Scout's honor.  i wasn't there, but more than one hollywood spandex girl who was there, grew up since then, discovered their "conscience" or "moral compass navigation" or whatever, and has testified under oath that yep, they had to wait outside in the cold september rain while Rikki and his idiot pal Taime took care of the burial hole).

and that's where rock and roll is buried, at the corner of La Cienega and San Vincente, fifteen yards underneath the old "Osko's Disco" building.  that's right, underneath a 70's disco.  whether or not the Cathouse pipeline to hell still works, you'd have to ask Riki.  or Taime.  or maybe the other four dorks that were in Faster Pussycat, i bet ya.  they were all on satan's payroll, it's a fact, you can look it up on the internet.

=======================

memo to ms. B.C. in LA koreatown:  quit bugging me about the "bootleg beatles bedsheets."  THEY'RE ALL GONE.  you didn't want any, then you changed your mind, then you were all "i'm really busy at the neighborhood kpop noraebang karaoke machine this weekend, i'll let you know later, kay?"  no, not ok.  they're gone, G O N E.  and you didn't get any.

i'll make sure you get your usual bag of coals for christmas though, i'm real tight with santa's helpers this year.  (they just discovered the last fourteen years of girl group 2nd gen / 3rd gen kpop, and are all "your four comp tapes are f'n awesome, can you make any more dupes of the one that is on a D-60 cassette/analog format?"  yes definitely.  (the other three which were painstakingly manually dubbed onto 120 min TDK VHS-tape "master copies" are a little tweakier on their request list, since there's always a "backlog" of requests  to get around to dubbing copies for each fortnight's "new converts to this strange new musical religion you have turned me on to."  uh duh, it's called "crazy good dancing choreo" and "exCELLent pop-tune rapping, even in the crap nugu (rookie) groups."  true, true, and more than true.

oh, and the one out of every ten to twenty songs issued that are REALLY GOOD to GREAT to WHOA THE BEST THING I'VE HEARD IN TEN YEARS (official statistics on the success % percentage, be it year to year, or c/y (current year) over p/y (prior year), are hard to come by when your staff consists of the high-turnover local unpaid imaginary interns (during their Cal State Hayward drinking hour or other "dead time).   and DuLY NoTeD:  with thirty to forty new rookie kpop gg groups every year, that (the nugu groups who clock in at somewhere between hopeless and its close cousin, hapless) always accounts for a big percentage of "the songs that really stink, please make them stop."   EVERGLOW, THAT MEANS YOU (last year 2019, continuing into this year).   but whatevs. i don't like their dancing/choreo either.  white boys from arkansas got their standards.   (180 deg the other way, two singles/videos in already, 2020 rookie group Cignature is f'n the awesome sort of shit (tunes, lyrics, choreo / dancing and rapping) that you just can't grow on trees, love it love it (an actual digital cd or cd-r of debut song/single, the Nunnu Nanna song, is #1 on my "wish list" (since it is something that doesn't exist on CD format yet) (i just collect en masse, via the magic of VCR "dubbing" to VHS analog tape, anything/everything that i like off of regional Bay Area cable TV Ch 32's ten hours daily of kpop and kpop TV shows (Pops in Seoul, After School Club, Rolling with Kpop, Simply Kpop, and something new called PromiSinger (i.e. groups), plus half of the programming that is the endless "one hour blocks" of any MVs since the "ground zero 2nd Gen big bang" year of 2007 (for the weird-sounding world of "kpop boy groups" it was year 2006).  it's not beatlemania level (musically), but man is it a cultural monster the size of ten elephants.  with umpteen different real TV shows (lots of them, from the Airang korea cable channel worldwide network, i.e. all with "english language hosts"), right here in oakland/bay area cable, daily!  man is this the greatest place to live or what.

NOTE:
 the additional scans here (attached) of about 120 "$5 tapes" (a few of them in the scans have disappeared/sold).   I will probably wind up posting them up (all of them) as a "quantity discount" listing --
  "4 for $14.98" or "5 for $19.98"
(in other words, which = buy three (or four) for $5, and get one more free =
 which =  buy 4 / $19.98 (means that the fourth tape is one dollar off, at $4, so = $5 + $5 + $5 + $4 + one free = 5 for $18.98)
 or  BUY 3 / $14.98 (buy three at $5, and get one more free)

AGAIN, NOTE: I CAN PUT TOGETHER A pre-arranged fixed-price (that only the buyer will recognize in its disguised format, i.e. a pre-arranged set-sale total that's they can punch in as a "best offer," i accept it, ding dong, transaction completed on the day that they tell me to post it up) (any size of three tapes or more, plus the free one for each three or four) --
 for anyone that needs three or more of them (in any quantity of them, with the same discounts 'rolling forward').  selling just one or two of them at $5 -- nah.  people with bigger 'want lists" or "i want this" lists will get serviced first!

SO HERE is the example of how that works.  hahaha!  i even hide a picture(s)/scans of the ones they're buying, some ten deep into the Starday trucker-comp and kpop gg (girl group) photos (counting the K-Pop Gang from Trolls World Tour, who were, duh, in real-world time the super popular 3rd-biggest gg since their 2015 rookie year, Red Velvet)  -- in this case, the buyer's big item, a $40 super clean copy of the Ramones' End of the Century album plus four more tapes from the $5 tapes) --

https://www.ebay.com/itm/A-BUNCH-OF-8-TRACK-TAPES-THAT-MY-DAD-S-TRUCK-RAN-OVER/174311141093?hash=item2895c0eee5:g:OUUAAOSwBGJe3w4W

sub-footnote:  there's also $2 tapes (about seventy different titles) on the "getting rid of these too" ), which would get discounted, like what,  6 FOR $10?  yeah, i'm pretty sure that's it -- oh right, "buy 5, get one more FREE" = 6.  (for $10).  duh!

==========================

the last picture here (if i remember to load it) is kinda-famous-finally actress/musician Brie Larson (captain marvel, remember?  the one who saves Iron Man and basically by that act sets "saving the Marvel Universe" in motion) (if you do not remember her fairly-awesome indie-rockstar frontman/lead-singer-ex-girlfriend-from-hell role in Scott Pilgrim Vs the World, then i will have to remove your semi-clueless name from the year 2022 never-ending house party  guest list) -- (this picture) back at the age of 17 or 18  (a writer friend of mine did a looong interview with her back then --

 http://stylusmagazine.com/articles/pop_playground/sugar-shock-013-bunnies-traps-and-slip-n-slides-an-interview-with-brie-larson.html

 (after her major-label 1st album which had tanked, but also talking about the 2nd one which was 'stalled' in the "rejected demos" stage that she was writing/recording/demo'ing and sure enough it never did happen -- anyway that super-long interview  being not just about her literary-fanzine ("Bunnies and Traps") but also in depth about her super-fan music fan background and her (stillborn, basically, as far as the major label couple of years went) "MUSICAL" career that hadn't quite hit the abort point yet -- it probably still comes up (ED -- it did, see above) re his column "Sugar Shack" on the stylusmagazine.com music website,  where he was in the process of eventually writing about long fifteen columns and 100,000,000 words about the years 1999 - 2006/07's "teenpop" genre, until (dave bailed on the genre after) radio disney and their in-house label Hollywood Records just castrated it (big-picture-wise and especially per the genre's market age-demographics) --

just in time (did i say the year 2007?  i did) for -- wait for it -- literally hundreds and hundreds and still more hundreds (since 2007 on out, ramping crazy from 2009 into infinity) -- of --

KPOP GIRL GROUPS TO TAKE OVER THE POP MUSIC WORLD  good songs, bad songs, everything inbetween  (gaga made a flailing attempt for 'musical cred' by inserting herself into the recent new Blackpink single and MV, and oh jeez, it's just embarrassing (lady gaga's half of it, esp in the MV).  the B/P half just stinks, same as their last single Kill This Love but what would i know?  i hate almost 100% of all american-based pop music (save billie elish and her brother, duh) since like 2012, so whatevs.  (the first four Blackpink singles were "perfect 10's," perhaps the first such in post-1964 pop music history, but Du-Du-Du-Du was ehhhhhh nowhere near a "10," and man i just H A T E D their Kill This Love stinkbomb.  love the group, love Teddy Park (when he's on his game) (c.f. Jean Somi's post-I.O.I. debut solo single/MV "Birthday," which very disappointingly peaked out at only #22/Kor, but damn if it wasn't awesome (about a year ago), but i hate on lots of songs and the last two Blackpink singles are right in there.  (the gaga 'collab' is so awful in the MV, you seriously never ever ever want to see it, if you ever enjoyed even 1/2 of the "arguably the greatest dance/pop album ever made," i.e. the Fame/Fame Monster 2lp debut.  just really realllly HORRIBLE.  i almost threw up it's so bad.  almost as bad as early 90's?  Madonna when her "i'm so sexy, ooh look i'm half naked" trope was way past a "didn't you do this a dozen times before?" stale date.

in conclusion:  buy this nifty (sounds really good) 8-track and help turn the American New Depression economy around!

==========================

NOTE: THE "TESTING" routine that i use for anything in 8tk that gets posted/ebay, etc --

"TESTED" = means = i use a Pioneer H - R99 deck, which is the runnerup (to a Pioneer H-R100) for the supposed "gold standard" of great sounding, mass-produced mid-70's name brand 8tk stereo-component decks (per audio) (mine is too snotty to associate with the mis-mash of thrift store 80's name brand components over in the amp / cassette deck / speakers (big Altec floor speakers, $20 back around 1986?  at the old long-gone livermore Salvation Army.  and with "that 70's show" type Sony "bookshelf " speakers stacked on top of them, like giant mid-range-y tweeters).

soo -- to test any 8Tks (like these here), i'll put the 8tk into the deck with the Play function on PAUSE.  then let it go, and play Tk1 for bout 10 seconds, then ka-ching "program" move it to Tk 2 for its 10 second test, ka-ching into Tk 3 repeat/same, and finish the test with ka-ching into Tk 4 repeat/same.  then hit PAUSE and pull the 8Tk out.
 (depending on the manufacture/era of any particular 8tk cart, some 8tks' audio can "wobble" a little bit and i have no way of telling whether that is the occasional real-time occasional vagarities of this Pioneer deck's loading angles (as opposed to the tape itself).  anyone who's dealt with numerous different makes/brand of 8tk playback decks will be well familiar with this sub-phenomenon)

duly noted:  i dunno if other Pioneer R99's or R100's are like mine, but my Pioneer R99 is ReALLy tempermental when it comes to any Tk8 cart(ridge)s that are a little "tight" (meaning the space between the roller-wheel and the cart).  soo if i hear anything "weird" in the first three seconds of "play" (in testing) after i've unlocked the deck (from "pause") into the play function -- i'll hit the PAUSE button again, and pull the 8tk tape right out.  and the tape gets a "fail / not for sale."

===========================

POSTAGE!  $2.98 media mail (for 2 lbs).  actual cost only, no markup, and can combine with any other orders like always (ebay doesn't seem to be able to do this, so i just "correct" the postage cost via paypal or cash-back into the cardbox mailer full of 8 track tapes

also note: DOMESTIC MAIL ONLY, can't ship anything overseas that weighs this much.
(UNLESS it's just a single 8-track -- like this posting here -- in which case i would and could pack it into a used "jiffy bag" and ship it overseas AT COST ONLY -- whatever that might come to -- (doing the form(s) and postage myself over at the post office).  DOUBLE NOTE:  had to look a rate up for Australia --  a 5oz jiffy bag (with the one 8-track in it) would be $17!!!  jeezus!
 8 track carts weigh 4oz, so figure that it would total up to, max, maybe a 6oz "small airmail packet" (or whatever they call it these days).  (at my risk to be refunded, if the tape gets destroyed by the international mail trucks or however they get across the atlantic or pacific oceans).
