Description
A Golden Era Essential – Verified 1993 US Original Pressing
Up for sale is an authentic first pressing of A Tribe Called Quest’s masterpiece, Midnight Marauders. This is the highly coveted DMM (Direct Metal Mastering) version, identifiable by the specific etchings in the runout groove. Unlike modern digital-transfer reissues, this copy features the original analog-sourced warmth and punch that made the album a legend.
Runout Groove / Matrix Details:
-
Side A: 01241-41490 1-A DMM SP-1
-
Side B: 01241-41490 1-B DMM SP-1 (Note: These markings confirm the Specialty Records Corporation pressing and DMM mastering.)
Condition Report:
-
Vinyl (VG+): This was a working DJ copy but has been exceptionally well-maintained. The vinyl retains a strong gloss with some light surface scuffs and hairline marks that do not affect play. No skips or deep gouges. It has been "vibe-tested" and plays with that classic '90s clarity and minimal surface noise.
-
Sleeve (VG): Shows honest DJ usage. Expect some ring wear on the front/back, corner dings, and light edge shelf wear. The jacket is structurally sound with no major seam splits.
-
Labels: Clean Jive "Green Flame" labels with some spindle marks near the center hole.
Shipping Info:
Ships in a dedicated cardboard record mailer. The vinyl will be removed from the jacket during transit to prevent seam splits.

Why the DMM Etching Matters
The DMM (Direct Metal Mastering) process on this '93 press is famous among hip-hop heads for its reduced surface noise and crisper high-end. Modern represses often sound "flat" by comparison; collectors pay a premium specifically for the DMM SP-1 mark because it represents the highest fidelity available for this album.
