ABBA LYNARD SKYNARD VA 1976 EXTREMELY RARE PROMO ONLY RADIO SHOW DISK HOT NEWS1
The Hot News radio show distribution appears to have originated sometime in the later 1970s. This disk is in VG+ condition and has its data sheet included which indicates that on Wednesday, November 10, 1976 there was a show produced about a group called ABBA and the origin of the name of the group, and how they were still suffering from anonymity. In 1976, the band ABBA was relatively unknown.
On Thursday Nov. 11th and Friday Nov. 12th there were two five minute shows done about the band called Lynyrd Skynard featuring the late Steve Gaines talking about his band getting loaded and how they wrote "Sweet Home Alabama" as an answer to Neil Young's "Southern Man" song. In just a few months after the release of this interview, Steven Gaines and several other members of Lynyrd Skynard would die in an infamous plane crash.
The Hot News Record Label was the name of a relatively small syndicated subscription only music and mass media focused news service that operated out of Malibu, California in the 1970s and 1980s. Hot News produced five minute radio shows which consisted of news and interviews with and about various musical and theatrical artists. These shows were transcribed and distributed in groups of 14 shows or tracks on one 12 inch vinyl albums.
Distribution of these transcription disks was limited to those radio stations who paid a fee to the Hot News company for the right to air the five minute shows in a given radio market. The number of Hot News transcription shows produced would be limited to the number of radio stations that subscribed to the Hot News service.
The Hot News radio show market was very small compared to the other radio show companies (like Earth News and Nightbird) that were based in bigger cities across the country that produced similar content. It is unlikely that Hot News produced more that 500 disks nationwide for a given weekly broadcast.

Each track on a "Hot News" transcription disk had a locked groove at the end of the track so that the needle would not advance into the next track. They were not distributed with hard outer jackets. The disks were distributed with white album inner sleeves and cue sheets.
