THE CLASSIC 1985 BROADCAST FROM DALLAS TEXAS The early-to-mid 1980s were a difficult time for AC/DC. While Brian Johnson had taken up the helm as lead singer following the tragic death of Bon Scott in 1980 - very successfully as it happens, their first post-Bon album Back In Black was their biggest seller to date - in 1983 original drummer Phil Rudd had been fired following years of substance abuse and personal problems. After auditioning 700 potential new skin-beaters, Simon White was eventually brought in as a replacement, although he did not appear on that year s Flick Of The Switch, as Rudd had completed the necessary parts prior to his departure.
Flick Of The Switch had been an attempt to capture the rawness of their early recordings, and the group had parted ways with producer Mutt Lange - who had worked on their previous three albums - in favour of self-production. Critical reception however was mixed, with some claiming the record lacked originality. But the AC/DC faithful knew better, and Flick... reached No. 4 and No. 15 in the UK and US respectively, eventually going Platinum. While 1985 s Fly On The Wall didn t fare much better with the critics, again the fans loved it and made the album another roaring success.
The subsequent tour was equally well received and on 12th October 1985 the band played in Dallas, Texas, where they put on what many feel was the best show of the tour This recording, taken from a live FM radio broadcast of the Dallas performance recorded at The Reunion Arena in that famous city - features the band in terrific form and while right in the midst of their Fly On The Wall tour. Despite petty grievances from the music press, this set, which contains a staggering mix of classics and newer numbers captured at the best possible quality, goes to prove that AC/DC were still second to none at producing a spectacular hard rock show despite the personnel changes they had been forced to undertake.
