this is an original first pressing 1966 Sound City Productions limited to 1000 copies privately issued lp THE ACID TEST, featuring Ken Kesey, Ken Babbs, the Grateful Dead and the Merry Pranksters.  edited from several hours of lysergic recordings made at Sound City Productions around the time of the Trips Festival, this is the pranksters' attempt to reproduce the varieties of an acid trip in the studio (while they were on the then-legal drug, of course).

the cover is a gorgeous EX overall, the front paste-on slick is M-. the spines have no splits or tears, just a couple tiny dings, and the blank back has a few stains, but apart from the back it really couldn't be much nicer in any way.

the lp is a beautiful VG+, no wear or significant marks of any kind, just a handful of light superficial hairlines and pressing anomalies which will not affect play in any significant way.  it is very close to EX, but i want to grade it as conservatively as possible due to the rarity and value.  you will not be disappointed, guaranteed.

all opened lps are cleaned on a VPI HW-17, and are graded visually (with 150 watt bulb and more than 20 years of experience) using very strict goldmine standards:

M still sealed, or if opened, absolutely flawless in every way (i've only ever graded a few opened records straight mint in 18 years of selling lps).

the cover will be flawless.  just because something is still sealed or completely in the original shrink doesn't mean it is mint.

M- virtually flawless, will play mint. a very minor scuff and very little else will appear, and will most likely have occurred during packaging, or removing the record from the inner sleeve, but has been handled with extreme care. it will play without any noise over the flaw, which will be very hard to see. if a scuff covers more than a few tracks yet can be seen, it will not be M- but EX.

the cover should look as close to perfect with only minor signs of wear and or age. minor impressions to the cover (due to the outer edge of the vinyl resting inside) may be acceptable, however the artwork should be as close to perfect as can be.

EX there may be minor scuffs which are only slightly visible, but it will still play mint. scuffs lay on top of the grooves; if any break in the grooves are felt, they are scratches and will most often be heard as soft clicks or even loud pops when played. no scratches can make this grade by any means, usually there would just be a few inaudible marks or a couple faint superficial scuffs.  again, it will play mint.

the cover will still be as close to perfect as can be. there may be some minor outer ring wear, but no ink wear; some slight creases to the corners, but not wrinkled and obtrusive to the eye. the corners can show white, but there will be no seam splits, writing or taped repairs.

VG+ will show wear, surface scuffs or spiral scuffs that came from turntable platters, and some very light scratches. surface scuffs are caused from blunt (not sharp) objects. the vinyl should still have nearly perfect luster, but the flaws will be noticeable to the naked eye. there will still be no real surface noise other than possibly between tracks, or a very occasional solitary click or faint pop.  the record still should look as though it was handled with extreme care, and play mint for the most part.

the artwork should look clean with slightly more aging, and may have some small unobtrusive writing on it. flat white paper may have yellowed somewhat, yet there will be no stains or mildew. some minor wear to the seams or spine, but no tears or holes popping through. the corners will be slightly dog-eared yet no crackly bends, defacing the artwork. in essence, a VG+ cover should have no more than 3 flaws.

VG will appear well played but still have much luster. there will be more surface scuffs and scratches, causing audible artifacts, but they should not overpower the dynamics of the music. the surface noise will be a minor crackling or a slight hiss, but should only be heard in between tracks or in low musical passages, apart from the occasional pop or click which still should be very minor

cover will look aged, and more yellowish due to contaminations in the air, but still should at least still have some attractive life to it, and not have taped seams or water damage to it.
