AFFINITY – Same – ORIG Vertigo Swirl LP / 6360 004 (UK, Stereo, 1970)
Happy to present an original UK copy of Affinty’s sole long player – surely one of the very best on the Swirl label. IF YOU’RE LOOKING FOR A WELL-LOOKED AFTER COPY, LOOK AWAY NOW! This is in a well used state and is extensively marked. Having said that, apart from a stick on the ‘Three Sisters’ track it actually plays well with very little audio impediment.
The non-laminated gatefold sleeve, designed by Keef is intact, flat and without writing or rippling. It does however show plenty evidence of handling, slight discolouration, a small sticker tear to the front top right and heavy rubbing to the spine which has kissed goodbye to most of the text but is not actually split. There are also a couple of thin score marks across the front and quite heavy rubbing to the inner gate. Edges are rubbed but not split and corners are softened. In spite of all these signs of use and age, it shows little creasing, remains nice and flat and is all intact and in one piece without tape or tear repairs. Grades G (Good).
The original 1970 Swirl labels show NO writing, stickers or residue. There is substantial spindle evidence to both sides of the label but no actual wear to the centre hole.
The medium weight vintage vinyl shows a lot of marking. Side 1 in particular has a long prominent scuff and several lighter scuff lines. Add to this many small scratches and hairlines and it’s not the prettiest looking disc. However, IT HAS BEEN CAREFULLY LISTENED TO and plays with very few problems. The stick on ‘Three Sisters’ is due to a parallel scratch around half way through. Other than this though, there’s not many noticeable audio faults and even the quiet tracks such as ‘Coconut Grove’ play well with only a little in the way of soft audible ticks. Any crackle is well UNDER and not OVER the music throughout the whole LP. So visually only comes in at F (Fair) but the playgrade is much better than that.
Supplied with a swirl inner (not its original, writing top right), this is obviously not the greatest copy but with EX and above copies fetching such high prices, here’s a chance to bag this rare UK original for your Swirl collection at a sensible price. NO RESERVE.
