Description
An amazingly rare original mono vinyl copy of the revered freeform jazz LP Spiritual Unity by the Albert Ayler Trio (ESP 1002) from 1965 - the very first pressing with the silkscreen sleeve, ultra rare booklet and 'ear' symbol in the runout area of both sides of the vinyl.
The EX condition heavy slab of vinyl looks almost like new, shiny black with only the lightest of surface marks showing when critically examined under strong halogen lighting. The disc lies perfectly flat on the platter and plays beautifully, all the way through, both sides, with no skips and no jumps.
The shiny deep red ridged labels with black text are unmarked, completely free from stains, writing or sticker tears, with no sign of any spindle marks whatsoever, denoting very little play over the years.
The single silkscreen sleeve is in lovely VG+ condition with a few neatly handwritten classification notations on the rear paste-on panel (please see photo); the sleeve is completely free of unsightly stains or soiling or tears or any other damage whilst inevitably there is general ink spill from the silkscreening process. The white paste-on panels remain white and the seams are unsplit, the spine unworn, the corners generally sharp and the opening edges strong and straight and unfeathered.
This copy comes with its original 1965 booklet ('Ayler - Peacock - Murray - You and the Night and the Music', with text by Paul Haines and illustrations by H Bernstein) which accompanied only a handful of Ayler's album's initial release batch. The booklet is in lovely well cared for EX uncreased condition.
Good luck if you are bidding. I carefully package all rare vinyl with the disc removed from the sleeve to eliminate 'knifing' during transit. Please check out my other high quality original vinyl items.
