Here's one for the serious Slade collector! As you all know 'Beginnings' was their foursome's first album in 1969 and though a long sought after rarity, copies do surface fairly often considering. This copy however must surely rank as one of the ultimate Slade rarities, in fact I've seen more copies of the In Be Tween American Highland label 45 'Security' than what is on offer here. Here is a genuine Fontana promo copy of 'Beginnings', housed in a standard sleeve but with demo labels on both sides. Proper demo copies of Philips' group LP releases - rather than 'sample' stamped stock copies - rarely appear by any artist and the only other ones I've ever seen are one or two copies of the Open Mind album, and one other artist (who I can't remember!). This is the only promo of 'Beginnings' I've ever encountered, in 30 years of collecting.
The labels are perfect, they are textured rather than completely smooth and as you can see are numbered with a large '1' and '2' respectively. Otherwise they look similar to Philips group 45 demos. The vinyl is lovely and clean, most I feel would plum for NM but I'll opt for a safer EX. The record has seen very little use (still tight on the spindle!), the vinly has a lovely natural gloss and bar an inaudible surface scuff across tracks 1 and 2 on side 2 (and a smaller one across two thirds of track 3), it really is a nice copy with no spindle wear on the label. Playing wise its been played throughout on my free standing deck and though there's a little noise here and there and the odd pop and crackle, its a nice playing record.
The sleeve is a decent EX, a few laminate creases but nothing major at all, the only spoilers are the bottom corners - the bottom left hand corner has a little colour loss, whilst the bottom right has more significant corner wear as you can hopefully tell from the scans. Spine text is perfect.
Nothing else to say really - money back guarantee obviously if unsatisfied, at least you haven't had to read the history of Slade and read the lyrics to 'Genesis' (!!!) before you got the gist....
Haven't sold on ebay for a good while but my feedback was based mostly on vinyl.....
