ANDREW HILL - COMPULSION!!!!!
Great condition copy of this 1967 highly collectable US Blue Note 1st press rarity
Year/Label : 1967 US BLUE NOTELabel number : BLP 4217
Matrix numbers : BNLP-4217.A, BNLP-4217.B (etched), and "VAN GELDER" machine stamped on both sides
Gleaming jet black sheen excellent plus (EX+) condition vinyl, completely flat - if you look really closely under a bright light it is just about possible to detect one or two small, extremely faint and purely superficial scuff lines on each side but that's it! Clearly, this record has been very sparingly played. The labels are in overall excellent (EX) condition with the only blemishes being a single very faint 2cm spindle trail on each label (you will need to look very closely and tilt the record to the right angle in a good light to dee them) and some faint, but just noticeable, blue ink smudging on the side 1 label above the word "NOTE"- an increasingly common occurrence on these original 1st press Blue Note labels. Note the "NEW YORK USA" text on each label, synonymous with Blue Note 1st pressings of this record. Excellent (EX) condition and eminently presentable original thick cardboard outer sleeve with all of the colours, art work, photos and text remaining impressively intact. Each edge remains firm with the only scuffing being a 1cm mild scuff on the bottom edge adjacent to the bottom right corner.. Each corner remains a near perfectly defined right angle with barely any rubbing at all, and there is no fraying on either of the opening edges. The spine remains rigid with all spine text fully intact. The reverse side is equally impressive with just a couple of very light and small age/storage/handling marks and a 4cm light surface crease on the reverse side "paste-on" towards the top left corner (see photo - very trivial).. Note the "43 West 61st St., New York 23" text at the bottom of the reverse side of the outer sleeve - another 1st press identifier. Excellent plus (EX+) MONO audio quality with no clicks, skips, jumps, repeats, sticks, interference or distortion and background crackle is non-existent. Great tone and crystal clear audio quality throughout - superb! Every track remains a great listen with legendary musicians Freddie Hubbard (trumpet & fluegelhorn), John Gilmore (tenor sax and bass clarinet), Andrew Hill (piano), Cecil McBee (bass), Richard Davis (bass), and Joe Chambers (drums), Nedi Qamar (African drums & African thumb piano), and Renaud Simmons (conga) all in top form. Comes complete with original and great condition "27 YEARS BLUE NOTE" advertising inner sleeve with no seam splits, no edge fraying, barely any creasing, and just the hint of some very mild age discolouration. Great stuff!! Hard to believe that this record is 56 years of age - worthy of gracing any serious jazz vinyl collection.
POSTAGE COSTS :
For the UK £9 using Royal Mail special delivery;
for continental Europe £13 using Royal Mail 1st class tracked and signed for,
and for the rest of the world £19 using Royal Mail 1st class tracked and signed for.
I do provide posting and packaging discounts for multiple purchases. I make no profit from postage.
Note that I always insert the vinyl into a new plain white poly-lined inner sleeve in order to protect the original during postage, and separate this from the outer sleeve to prevent seam splits. I use thick cardboard stiffeners and take great care in my packaging to ensure as far as possible that these precious records reach their destination in exactly the same condition as when they leave me.
