Description
Ann Odell
'A Little Taste'
DJM, UK, 1973
DJLPS 434
PRIME EXAMPLE of early seventies singer/songwriter folk prog with lots of top names backing her up. Apparently she was in Blue Mink but I can't find any reference of that - all I know, is that she later went on to front a brilliant heavy prog outfit called Grand Slam signed to Jet records in the late seventies. This LP, her debut and as far as I know only album, brilliantly captures the sound and smell of the early seventies femail singer songwriter scene, similar to artists like Leslie Duncan, Bridgit St John, Claire Hamill and Kiki Dee. Signed to the DJM label, home of Elton John, its no surprise to find that's she's backed by a host of top session players including, natch, most of Elton John's band, guitarists Ray Fenwick (Ian Gillan Band) and Gary Boyle (Isotope), keboardist Peter Robinson (Brand X) and bassist John Gustafson (Quartermass). Top playing and Ann's brilliant songs make for a killer album that has for too long flown compeletely under the radar. I've only seen two copies in 35 years of serious collecting and one of those is staying in my own personal collection!
Rare!
This auction is part of a fantastic collection of seventies rock which I was lucky enough to acquire. Most of these records were stored with the utmost care and sparsely played. Some were possibly never played or may have been for just a handful of times.
