ANTONIO CARLOS JOBIM + VINICIUS DE MORAES: BRASILIA - SINFONIA DA ALVORADA RARE PROMO (1983), CBS ESPECIAL 620041, BRAZIL, 33 1/3, LP,
TRIPLE GATEFOLD
In 1958, Juscelino Kubitschek, president of Brazil, asked Vinícius de Moraes and Antônio Carlos Jobim to compose a symphonic suite to be used at the opening ceremony of a city that was being built in the middle of Brazil to be the new capital. This is Brasília - Sinfonia da Alvorada (1961), recorded in the studio in 1960. Jobim conducts the orchestra with the participation of Radamés Gnattali (piano), Vinícius de Moraes (words, poetry), Elizete Cardoso (voice), and Os Cariocas (voices).
The original version of this album has been auctioned at Ebay for prices up to USD 1500.- !!!
This rare and beautiful reissue from 1983 was sponsored by the Brasília Tourism Department and released on 21 April 1983, date of the citie's 23rd anniversary. In fact, the Federal Goverment of Brazil contracted CBS in 1983 to reprint "Sinfonia Da Alvorada" in a special limited edition that was given to Embassies around the world to celebrate the 23rd anniversary of the Brasília city. Therefore this reprint is as rare as the original release. It is a Promotional Edition, NEVER SOLD COMMERCIALLY. The album comes in a Triple Gatefold (Trifold), complete with an inlay (insert, booklet) with English translations of De Moraes' lyrics about Brasilia.
This reprint has been auctioned only two times on Ebay during the past 20 years: In 2004 it sold for USD 85.-, and in 2010 for USD 59.- !!!
Original Brazil LP. The cover has only few creases on the edges and very slight ring wear (see pictures) = E+
The record plays almost as new, only sometimes there is a light fizz = M-

Unless otherwise noted, my records are play-graded. I play through all records on a Technics SL-QD33 with a Technics P30 stylus. Grading and comments on sound are purely my opinion and therefore subjective. The same record/LP may sound different on another system or setup. Please contact me with any questions. All of my records are carefully packed in sturdy cardboard mailers. I will add two cardboard supports, and the record will be out of sleeve to prevent seam splits.
